It’s not a ridiculous question at all. Nostalgia in sports is a huge problem in matchups. Ali fought no skilled super heavyweights and we can’t just assume he does well because he’s Ali, a name shouldn’t automatically win fights
yeah your right a name shoud'nt seal a debate alone i posted that 3 years ago when i just started reading into boxing and was a Muhammad Ali fan looking back it might have a been a tad over dramatic
Ali was a master at pressers and far more articulate and popular than AJ is, he was witty too, he would make AJ look wooden, even Miller beat AJ at their presser and he`s no Ali, Ali might be more likely to stop AJ because he had a much better chin, there`s no way AJ could have taken the shots Ali took off Shavers.
Frazier would have counter hooked AJ after AJ punched because AJ stays on the center line after punching, Frazier had better head movement than AJ and had a work rate that the gassy, bulky AJ wouldn`t have been able to keep up with.
Yes because Frazier has beat so many skilled super heavyweights. All Joshua has to do is back Frazier up which would be extremely easy for him to do
Frazier had better hooks than prime Povetkin or Ruiz in good shape. And Ruiz IS top 5 material today. I can imagine, if Frazier managed to close distance, 2 hooks to head and 1 power hook to liver until some from current HW TOP10 or CW TOP10 get what happened. He most likely retiered Dorticos from competitions after 15 rounds with him. Smokin Joe was GREAT. I do not admit undefeated mantra or shame to get defeated, Lumpini MT champ might have for example 200-33 record and it is pride not shame or weakness. 1 round with top 50 athlete > than 10 fights with bums...... even if lad had been defeated. It is fight not shame. Before modern era.
No Frazier landed more counters in his career than AJ has he ww always looking to hook and AJ has stated he doesn`t like fighting short fighters as he has trouble punching down at a moving target, he looked bad v the shorter Takam was being countered with a lot of hooks by Povetkin too and he was extremely vulnerable and shaky v Ruiz, I feel Frazier would have landed far more shots on Ruiz than AJ did in either of his fights v Andy, if AJ fought Frazier how he fought Ruiz (in both fights) he would lose.
Ali would play with Joshua Look what Ruiz did to him he made him look a fool & embarrassed him Ali would say " he's a pretty boy but I'm prettier"
Mark I'm not keeping close track of posters but seems you're a reasonable one that debates in a cordial manner. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I'll easily give the nod to Ali over AJ (not Fury) in the gab dept. Anyway that's not AJs style anyway. But fights aren't won in the presser, they're won in the ring. You ignored my biggest point. Most of Ali's opponents would be CWs or small HWs today. In the ring he'll be facing a 6'6" ~245# talented, harder punching HW in Joshua. The tactics that Ali used vs smaller opponents he would not get away with vs. AJ or many 2000s era HWs. Many think Ali is 0-2-1 or at best 1-2* vs the chinny Norton. I believe AJ and other top modern HWs would go 3-0 vs Norton. It's just common sense physics, which seems to allude many on here. Ali or Nortons only chance vs. an AJ is to try to take him into the late rounds and see if he gasses. As far as chins go - I don't think there's much difference. Ali wasn't taking punches from SWHs like AJ has. * Norton was robbed in their 3rd fight. In a competitive fight if you give all the close rounds to fighter A, fighter A will get the decision every time unless fighter B can get the T/KO over the other guy.
Your forgetting that Frazier was smaller than povetkin and Ruiz. If foreman could completely man handle Frazier I’m sure the much bigger Joshua can as well. All Joshua has to do is back Frazier up and eat 1 or 2 hooks, then it’s game over for Frazier. I’m done responding, it should really be obvious why Frazier has zero chance against Joshua
