How do you see Povetkin doing vs: - Herbie Hide - prime Chris Byrd (Povetkin stopped shot version) - Kirk Johnson - 37 y.o. Lennox Lewis - 38 y.o. Corrie Sanders - fat version of Samuel Peter - prime Chris Arreola - old Briggs - good versions of Gomez, Solis, Chisora and Adamek?
He would go undefeated but maybe lose to Lewis. But Lewis was the for the taking so who knows. He runs through everybody else
he beats everyone except maybe Lewis and Sanders I don't know what Povetkins record vs southpaws is. Sanders was a little past his prime so if Povetkin walks into a big punch, he could be in trouble. Still, i would favour Povetkin to win a decision over this version of Sanders. Lewis-Pov is 50-50. Can Pov close the distance without getting clipped by a hard right? Its hard to say. Povetkin didn't exactly have the footspeed of a young Tyson, and generally a short heavyweight needs great footspeed to close the gap vs a bigger guy. Its a toss up.
Povektin might lose 2 or 3 times vs/ all 47 fighters Vitali fought. Vitali is 17-2 in world title matches, only losing via injured shoulder and a cut, ahead on points in both fights. Gomez, Solis, Sanders, Lewis and Byrd would be his toughest matches. The fact that Povekin is 41 now and gave Joshua trouble and Ko'd Whyte shows he almost as good a the best today, well past his prime. You could say Povektin was one of the best heavyweight never to win the lineal title.
I think Povetkin isn't short heavyweight.Maybe he's 6'2" and two similar fighters destroyed Lewis. But considering the prime Povetkin's disappointing performance against Wladimir Klitschko, i can't imagine a Povetkin win against the 37 years old Lewis.
There are only 3 fighters in Vitali's resume whom I'd give a chance to beat prime Povetkin - Lewis, Sanders and Byrd. Lewis and Sanders were older though and I don't think they would do welll in the second part of the fight against Povetkin, so they would need to take him out quickly which would be very hard (and risky) task. Lewis, though, was great at holding/clinching - he was on Wlad's level at this part of the game. So, he might have frustrated Povetkin with his constant holding and break his offensive rhytm just like Wlad did. Byrd was an excellent boxer in his prime and he might have given tons of problem for Povetkin, but Povetkin had good workrate, stamina and skills and most likely would beat Chris by close decision.
I think guys like Gomez, Adamek, Solis, Bean would be more competetive against him than they were against Vitali. So yeah, he wouldn't look as dominant
Povetkin for sure beats most of them, but there are a few tough ones for AP. The three with the best chances to beat Alex are Lewis, Sanders and prime Byrd imo, as someone said earlier. 37 year old Lewis would likely still be my pick because he has the size, power and ring presence over Alexander. Probably a hard fought decision for LL. 38 year old Corrie still had the speed and power to hurt anyone, at least for a few rounds, so that's dangerous for Povetkin. I'd make Pov the fav though as he had a good chin and would be in better condition than that version of Sanders. Prime Byrd is tricky but I'd pick Povetkin to still beat him and on points. In the end, only Lewis would probably beat Povetkin and Alex likely wins all the others.
Prime Sanders maybe. . The shot , out of shape and unmotivated Sanders that only turned up for a payday gets utterly dominated by Povetkin. Sanders hadn't much defence in his prime. In the Vitali fight he literally blocked punches with his face.. Povetkin's left hook is there to land from the opening bell , a punch southpaws were vulnerable to. Povetkin beats any Byrd in the same way Ibeauchi did.
No, because he didn't beat shot Byrd the way Ibeabuchi did. He would outwork him though and win by decision
That's of course possible, hence why I said he could win for sure. However, Ruslan Chagaev was the best southpaw Povetkin fought, and he tagged Alexander with a lot of left hands. These coming from Sanders would have Povetkin reeling a lot worse than Huck did. And Sanders didn't rely on a jab, so the tripwire counter which southpaws are open for wouldn't be as regularly available for Povetkin. I know Sanders didn't have a great physique for Vitali, and he gassed after his explosive start, but it's ridiculous to say that Sanders wasn't motivated for that fight. I assume you missed when they actually fought, right? Coz he didn't beat him like Ibeabuci did then.
He didn't beat Byrd that way when he fought him, past his prime. If you think before you post, you'd be better off. Vitali hits harder than Povetkin by the way.
A fair pint , however Povetkin was kinda green and inexperienced when he fought Byrd. His left hook and angles got better with experience.
What? Povetkin was a super heavyweight amateur king, winning something like 14 tournaments. He was a well polished pro straight out of the gate.
