Even with knoetze's short comings as a pro Heavy, THIS WAS GOING TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS FIGHT FOR "SMOKIN JOE" A STEP OR TWO BELOW HIS FIGHTS WITH FOREMAN, Knoetze was flat out viscious if he could land that crazy overhand right!
A poorly planned comeback, taking on a large, powerful menace like Jumbo. Knock out an Evangelista or two and move up from there. The comeback still wouldn't have gone too far, but at least give yourself a chance.
TATE RUINED KNOETZE, OR SHOWED THE WORLD HE DID NOT HAVE IT TO BEGIN WITH, KALLIE WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER TATE BOUT, BUT IT WAS IN A 5 MAN TOURNAMENT, ACTUALLY KALLIE GOT THE BEST BRACKET, HE WOULD HAVE ONLY HAD TO FIGHT TWICE TO TATE'S THREE. I believe the 1979 WBA 5 man tournament , that went down easier than the Titanic, 1-Leon Spinks 2- Gerrie Coetzee 3- Kallie Knoetze 4-John Tate 5-Duane Bobick PS. Why did they just not have an 8 man tournament. (LIKE 1968) (Add Lyle, Shavers and Norton?). I know it will never happen, but I would be up for a (2 year) 32 man Tournament, to were the winner would have to win 5 bouts!
I hear ya but your last sentence more or less applies to everyone. Never a bad time for good old Crazy overhand right! I'm picturing Witherspoon nailing Bruno under the canvas.
I was at the Bruno fight it was the only time I saw Bruno come back from adversity and win,the reason was it was at the very end of the round.Cummings had huge biceps built up by weights in prison he gassed out and Frank's superior conditioning won the day.
no there are guys out ther cannot break an egg with a left or a right, the real rocky comes to mind, knoetze was known for throwing that right hand like a baseball pitcher! he was never the same after john tate fight.
This & the rest of your post. A bit late to this topic. Within the past year I re-watched the Joe-Jumbo fight. No question, you could've stuck a fork in Joe.
They probably would have gotten better paychecks for a fourth fight than what they got elsewhere and likely wouldn’t have gotten brutalized as bad
