Listening to the Breidis -Dorticos broadcast...its apparent to me...commentary has reached a new low. Skys commentary right now is unlistenable. No ones expecting a new Harry Carpenter...but the rules of good commentary appear to be reversed.... A) You should state the bleeding obvious at every step. B) Ram down the viewers throats in a loud irritating voice what they can already see and dont need u to shout C) Silence is not golden...verbal diarrehea and mumbling incessently is. D) Now and than put on a " urgent & false dying to pee from the suspense "voice to elicit a false impression of drama in proceedings Both Barker and the other idiot represent a new low
Punditry across Boxing and other sports has all become about sound bites and narratives. The sport is actually secondary.
Boring Barker needs to go along with Macklin who simply reads his pre-rehearsed lines when prompted by Smith. Get Frampton on as much as possible as he calls what is actually happening in the ring.
Yes. BT are no better with old man Bunce and a tired presentation. However Dempsey, rawlings and woodhall are trained journalists u can listen to them without gbh of the ears.
Yes and a well spoken irish or scottish voice lends itself well to commentary. I cant stand skys estuary English bs
I actually like Barker as a bloke. Seems a nice guy but he’s not a play by play commentator. Better as a pundit type. I also like Chris Lloyd and actually think he would be great in the hosts role on the Sky coverage instead of Anna woolhouse who always comes off as reading off a script. Lloyd actually seems to have a good knowledge of boxing and seems well liked in the industry. Knows a lot about amateurs too.
I miss Jim Watt - the passion, enthusiasm and non biased commentary made the fights much more enjoyable. Tough teak has been replaced by Pecker peak
@Trafford...spot on mate..i loved barker as a fighter...he was a very solid pro paid his dues type..and he had some excellent battles at world level...hes a decent pundit..just not suited to commentry.
Fortunately, didn’t have to listen to it. Even though I don’t speak Spanish, the You Tube download was music to my ears, compared to Sky’s gibberish.
20 or 15 years ago he was the top dog...a great writer...good reporter and pundit...hes a grotesque parody these days...always loud and incredulous at the simplest fact....the chas n dave blarney os very dated too..frankly they should replace him with a fresh koogan or elie sechbech younger type
