I back Norton and if Usyk was an orthodox fighter, I'd really back Norton. It's Usyk's southpaw style that may cause trouble
Also, when I think of Norton's defense, Usyk's right jab would be coming over the low left hand of Norton's, keeping Norton's right hand busy blocking the jab...Usyk should be able to jab with his right, slide to the left and land his left hand or right hook to the exposed front side of Norton. Norton's stance didn't seem to allow effective lateral or backward movement to counter a quick move to the left. Usyk should be able to move to the right behind his jab effectively too, Norton's left hand position would make it hard for him to hook a southpaw and his right hand will always be busy with a right jab. Unless Norton can establish his jab and make it a straight line fight, it's hard to see an advantage for him.
The exact point I came in here to make. Uysk fighting a 230lbs+ really doesn’t do anything for me in terms of how he’d cope with Norton.
I think the amount of rounds could factor here. Norton is better on offense and hit harder, criminally under rated with his body shots. The question is his chin and what type of punch Usyk throws at heavyweight. It could be a rely good match.
I’m not entirely sold on Usyk at heavyweight yet. Of course the crusierweights he fought we’re roughly of similar size to a lot of 1970s heavyweights but were they as good as the ones Norton competed with ? I just don’t know
This brings me to my next thought....who had the best ATG mustache? Was it Ken Norton, Evander Holyfield, Ron Lyle or Michael Spinks??
