Hearns wins every round but is it unfair because Floyd wasn't a welter really, though he had the dimensions. Leonard, Armstrong, Robinson, and Don Curry obliterate him at that weight. Heck, Lloyd Honeyghan was superior to Maidana.
Hector Camacho was a force of nature at 130. I don’t think anyone beats him at that weight. Faster than a speeding bullet and his durability and chin stood the test of time long past prime.
I was at that fight I saw Tony's hands wrapped as did the CSAC INSP. He passed & signed off on The wraps. Are you accusing him of being crooked??? The whole fiasco was started by that POS Richardson. He was known for complaining about opponents hand wraps. This time he went too far claiming plaster blocks fell out of the wraps Which was LUDICROUS!!!
Very few stand a chance against Floyd. I feel Floyd will outpoint Duran. Whitaker, Benitez and SRL are the only realistic options to beat Floyd cause they were very fast and skilled.
I love Roberto Duran and even Floyd himself admits Duran would have been his toughest fight out Leonard , Hearns and Duran and he would have to be at his best. As to who would win I have to say Floyd especially seeing Duran got beat by the skillful Wilfredo Benitez.
Geez, every time I see someone just write "Floyd" without a last name, my mind goes to Floyd Patterson. So I'm going, "Sonny Liston and Muhammad Ali, obviously. And Roberto Duran?" Then I read the first post and it's like, "Oh... Floyd Mayweather's kid." I'm gettin' old. : - )
Duran took apart Ernesto Marcel as a 16 fight novice. Marcel was one of the greatest to lace them up at featherweight, retiring as Champion with a win over Arguello. I feel pound for pound he was a better technician than Benitez, who was a 5'10" super welterweight against a past prime Duran....who would lose his next fight to Laing. Marcel fighting like Lomachenko before Lomachenko. Duran beat him with just 16 fights under his belt because he was that much of a beast against men his own size at lower weights. People don't realize that Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, and Benitez would all be favored against Mayweather at Welter and up as well. Floyd never fought dudes like this before, especially ones that would have youth, height, speed, and reach over him. Duran was consenting every physical advantage to these guys, and Mayweather would too.
The Marcel win was good for sure, but doesn't mean much in the long run. Both were so green and there was so much bias toward Duran there that even Marcel had no chance. The stoppage was about as pathetic as I've ever seen. A fighter stopped for inactivity in the 70s? Like wtf. Anyway, Ñato was absolutely brilliant (second best FW IMO, after Armstrong), but at that point, it really means nothing. It's like Harada's win over Ebihara, or Choynski's over Johnson.
