It’s so ridiculous that we have to question this much about two top fighters fighting. Wonder what could fix boxing
It will happen. I believe this because of the sorts of people AJ and Fury are. Fury will probably just retire if he can't face Joshua. He's already stated he's only got 3-4 more fights in him, and he'll want to go out with a bang. I believe it will happen, also mainly because we're not dealing with one of them being an arsehole like Wilder, who will ask for more than their worth. They will both respect each other enough and there'll probably be not too many difficulties in one party being stubborn too much. Both of them know this is the fight that will solidify their names in history, and they'll never get a bigger fight than this in their lives. When will we ever see a fight this big and this good in our lives again? How long? This is probably the biggest show in HW boxing since Lewis and Holyfield! Maybe even bigger!! I'm not saying they're as good as that, but in terms of a spectacle, it will probably be even better!
It's probably not going to happen until they are both over the hill and it's for a big payday while they avoid the next dangerous youngster.
If Hearn doesn't feed AJ to Usyk first. Hearn can't be that stupid though. As much as Hearn and AJ fear Fury, they have to make the fight. Given the current economic climate and the potential that it's still a $70m+ fight, it has to be made. And If AJ can put up a 12 round fight then we'll get a rematch.
There'll definitely be 2 fights though if there's a fight at all. No way with AJ fight without a rematch clause.
If AJ had not been beaten by Ruiz i would say the match up would have been held off. However now the money men have seen the 'Goose that lays the golden egg' was nearly taken from their grasp, well the money making belts were for a while and Furys unpredictable behaviours. I do believe it will happen sooner rather than later, it will be a mega mega money making bout, money talks, 2 Brits for all the heavyweight belts that matter, Kerr Ching Ker Ching.
Until the bodybuilder drops his commitments to the Mr Olympia competition and gets back in the boxing gym, instead of the weight training gym.
If this pandemic goes away by, say, mid 2021, then yes, i think this matchup will happen, and it'll be the biggest money maker in the history of the sport. On the other hand, if the pandemic drags on, then i'm not sure either fighter will be motivated enough to face each other without a live audience and the money and spectacle that would come with it. They'll probably each fight a few lesser opponents to try and ride out the pandemic and to make a quick buck, and when it doesn't go away, they'll just retire.
