Rocky for his size had undeniable power, generated out of a low crouch that allowed him to put all his weight into shots. It helped that his fists were like wrecking balls, which allowed him to punch with full power round after round and still inflict massive bludgeoning damage.

In absolute HW terms there are fighters that hit harder than him, but compare him to a LHW like Beterbiev for example and his power becomes much more respectable.

Lastarza went into the second Marciano fight with bone chips in his elbows. He didnt sustain a broken arm in the fight,he had surgery after the fight to remove the chips
Marciano knocked out two of Layne's teeth and broke his bridgework,he didnt knock out his entire front row of teeth.
Name a Marciano opponent who developed tumours in his arms from Rockys punches?
    You're enlightened!

Marciano was a terrific puncher especially for his size, had he possessed the accuracy of a Joe Louis he would be up there in the top pantheon of all time punchers.
Strangely enough many of his opponents did not rank him as the hardest puncher they fought.
Lastarza said he wasn't but that he could keep a steady bombardment up all through a fight and everything he threw was hard.
Cokkell said he was hit harder by others but never so often.
Moore named Durelle and Shepard as a harder punchers.
Charles said Marshall and Satterfield hit him harder.
Walcott said Marciano had better one shot power than Louis.
Weirdly Layne, who only met Louis in an exhibition and was ko'd by Rocky, said Louis hit him harder.
Louis said the hardest punch he ever received was from Al Delaney. He explained the difference between Schmeling's power and Marciano's power saying Marciano knocked him out with less punches but that he was older and that you can take more when you're younger.
I'd put Marciano's power above Schmeling's myself. Below is Rocky after the 2nd Charles fight.

Marciano's undeniable power emanated from his massive legs, which he unleashed when rising from the croutched position.

I always like it when people try to isolate some unique facet of a fighter's physique as the source of their power... Always good for a chuckle/

Archie Moore was asked to compare Frazier with Marciano, just prior to Joe’s fight with Jimmy Ellis. Moore said, “Frazier is a big, strong kid, but he’s no Rocky Marciano. Marciano was the strongest man, bar none, that I ever got in the ring with. And I fought some strong men.”

No need to lie McVey the both said Marciano was the hardest puncher they faced!

    Back and already insulting?
Saying Marciano was the strongest man he shared a ring with does not equate to hardest puncher.
Provide a verified quote in which Moore states Marciano was the hardest puncher I ever fought.
Until you can do that, keep your ignorant mouth off me!
In this interview, Moore says Curtess Shepard hit him the hardest.

    Here's another quote for you

Archie Moore, the former light heavyweight champion, was talking about heavy punchers recently. Moore, who fought 215 bouts in a career dating from 1936 to 1965, rated the hardest hitters he faced: Curtis (Hatchet Man) Sheppard; Lloyd Marshall; Yvon Durelle, and Rocky Marciano. In that order.
''Sheppard's was the best single punch I ever got hit with,''
Moore said. ''A right to the jaw. I fell on my face and just did beat the count. I don't know why, but the front of my thighs hurt for a week after that bout. Felt like I got hit with a baseball bat.'' Moore won both his bouts with Sheppard, in 1946 and 1947, by decision.
Moore called Marciano ''a very well-conditioned athlete.''
''His punches wore you down,'' said the former champion.

Now I'm waiting for your verified proof LoudMouth [you got that bit right]!

Joe Louis - "It hurt to bump into him....He hits harder than Max Schmeling...this kid is tough enough to beat anyone." "The Rock didn't know too much about the boxing book, but it wasn't a book he hit me with. It was a whole library of bone crushers."

Jersey Joe Walcott - "Marciano was a one-punch artist. He threw every punch like you throw a baseball, as hard as he could."

Ezzard Charles - "Rocky numbs you all over. Wherever he hits you, he hurts you; on the arms, the shoulders, the neck and the head."

Archie Moore - "After a fight with Marciano, it felt like you had been beat all over the upper body with a blackjack or hit with rocks."
"He could hurt you, sure, but it was the quantity of his punches. He just had more stamina than anyone else in those days. He was like a bull with gloves."

Roland LaStarza - "I would throw a hard punch, then he would throw a hard punch. The difference was that Rocky would throw 10 more. He just never stopped throwing punches."

Harry "Kid" Matthews - "He was a great puncher, one of the best of all-time. He just threw one punch after another, and all of them were hard."

Phil Muscato - "I can still feel his punches. He kept punching me in the upper arms until I could no longer hold them up to defend or throw punches".

Bernie Reynolds - "He had amazing strength. Any time Marciano hit you, he could hurt you. He didn't do much flicking; every punch was a knockout punch."
By the time Louis said what he said about Marciano he was America's idol and had absolutely no reason to be ' politically correct.' Besides, in 1968 Muhammad Ali was a pretty bitter man who felt he had been robbed of everything. The famous - or infamous - computer heavyweight tournament was set up in that year and in ONE of many versions, the computer had Marciano beating Ali. Ali was indignant, claiming that the computer ' must have been made in Alabama, ' but, desperate for money, he agreed to re enact the ' fight ' against Marciano for the TV companies. Marciano was forty six years old, but trained down close to fighting weight for the film. Ali, along with others who were present, tell the tale that during sparring sessions for the film Marciano - forty six years old, don't forget - nearly broke Ali in two with a body shot. Ali was astounded by Rocky's power. When most folks' picks as the two best heavies of all time both say that Marciano was a tremendous puncher that's plenty good enough for me. It's also good enough for me that it took Joe Louis two fights and one blistering combination to put Walcott away, whereas Marciano did it with a single punch.

Harry "Kid" Matthews "He was a great puncher, one of the best of all-time. He just threw one punch after another, and all of them were hard."
"Dan, I can still feel his punches. He kept punching me in the upper arms until I could no longer hold them up to defend or throw punches". Phil Muscato, 5th round KO victim of Rocky, to his nephew Dan, many years after his fight with Marciano.(Thanks to Dan Muscato).
Bernie Reynolds (1952 opponent) "He had amazing strength. Any time Marciano hit you, he could hurt you. He didn't do much flicking; every punch was a knockout punch."
Jersey Joe Walcott, who lost his title to Marciano in a 13th round KO and a rematch in a 1st round KO, was asked who hit harder, Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano. "Joe could take you out with combinations...Marciano was a one-punch artist. He threw every punch like you throw a baseball, as hard as he could. I have to say, with all respect to Joe, Marciano hit harder."
