Hammer probably gets jobbed on the cards , but why not just sling Tom Little in there with Allen and have a bit of a pretend grudge match? He’d kick up more fuss in the build up etc, this fight just doesn’t make sense.
Maybe they want to build up Hammer's profile in the UK. Or maybe it's just for a bit of cash and to stay busy.
Christian Hammer is underrated he gave a good showing against Ortiz, he'll batter Dave Allen who hasn't even been training asides from sparring Usyk and 'keeping fit' journeyman style
Since when has Hammer ever taken a dive? He is right in that Derrick Chisora niche--he beats the other mid-level guys and does better than expected against the elite. Allen will go nicely on his record along with Price, Teper, Kingpin Johnson, Sprot, Tank Williams, Wallisch and Leif Larsen.
I can only assume Hammer hasn't been near a gym in a year or he is ill, maybe he is on the booze...? Because.. If he has been training, has no injuries or illness and isn't boozing it up day and night then he kicks the living crap out of Allen. Allen is without doubt one of the worst things to happen to British boxing in decades, worse than Audley Harrison, just worse than anything.. He is a walking punchbag that occasionally throws a punch, says a few "funny" things in interviews with Kugan, puts a few socks down his underwear at weighins and now HE IS ON ANOTHER PPV CARD. Has anybody taken any notice of this Usyk Vs Chisora card? When I say Dave Allen is right now the second best fight on there.. that's all you need to know. Absolutely F'ing Embarrassing.
Hammer is going to knock Dave Allen out. The skills difference between these two is vast, and all Dave has going for him is a chin. A very odd fight as didnt Dave say he wanted to build slowly towards a British title, rather than be over matched at late notice and lose? This is Dave being over matched again.
This is Hearn giving in to Dave Allen's delusions. Dave before the Price fight started to think he could become a real contender, bolstered no doubt by Hearn pumping him to the casuals. The Price fight should have humbled Dave and made him realise that his appeal is that he comes along and talks a good fight and occasionally delivering. Like one of the posters above said, he should fight Tom Little. Thats the level both of them are. However, Dave went to sign with MTK, thinking he is a real boxer not a novelty act. This is Eddie trying to wring the last drops of blood out of Dave, no doubt thinking that it is better than letting Dave go to Queensberry and get absolutely plastered by Daniel Dubois.
Fair play to Dave Allen for taking this fight. He’s in shape, he’ll be coming off of camps with Usyk and Povetkin and taking a final roll of the dice at probably a realistic max level for his ambitions. Hammer is still only 33 years old and his last two defeats have been decision losses to Ortiz and Povetkin. Very tough fight but I’d much rather see this than Dave being fed to Ortiz, Whyte, Yoka or Dubois etc on short notice
Suits the narrative nicely. “last chance saloon for Dave Allen” “I’ve been training like I’ve never trained before - I wasn’t really fit for Price/Yoka/Thomas you’ll see a new white rhino in there” I think it’s possible they’re anticipating Whyte vs Povetkin not doing that well numbers wise and Allen, strangely, has a bit of a pull to the casual audience.
Hammer best results are Beating Price Winning several rounds off Ortiz and going the distance. Going the distance with Povetkin but losing every round. Hammer is overrated but I would still favour him to win. As someone else already mentioned Hammer would be a perfect opponent for Hughie and Bakole both of whom would be favourites against Hammer.
Allen has had about 10 last chance saloons so far, is this another one? He'll do the same thing again, not train properly, get stopped on his feet and then do a teary interview with Koogs talking about re-building and getting the British title. He'll come back, knock David Howe out again and then be talking about title shots. Rinse and repeat.
