Margarito took away Mayweather's reach advantage that he relied on for his style. Look at how few fighters he fought with a longer or equal reach. ODLH was one of the few guys he faced with a reach longer than his and Mayweather paid for it and never took that risk again.
Anyone who knows a thing about professional boxing knows that officials and representative from the opponents camp monitors wrapping process. And **** like plaster of paris is not easy to apply and above all superstitions its a huge risk. It's easier to break your fingers or your hand punching than your opponents face while wrapped in plaster of paris. Sad to see his career kinda ruined by the lies of that f*ggot naazim richardson. And cotto II was stopped just as he was starting to destroy Cotto. He wasn't a very talented boxer, had a mediocre ring iq at best but what he had was balls. He had incredible determination, a very good chin, very high stamina and stopped at nothing. You could put him against a tiger in a ring and he would try to punch it instead of running away. i respect him very much because of that. He was always fun to watch.
It’s no shame as he is a cheating scumbag who has shamed the great nation of Mexico and stained its historic boxing legacy.
I don’t agree at all. Floyd beat guys with longer reaches many including Corrales, Hernandez, Justin Juuko and many others to name a few. Floyd did not rely on reach he relied on his skills. Floyd beat ODLH comfortably even though he was never a Light Middleweight.
What a load of bull Anyway he was a cheat regardless what you say and the whole world knows it He was my favourite fighter until the plaster I thought he was a real life rocky and was never so proud after he beat cotto, but loaded wraps is cowardly and dangerous I'm glad he was allowed back so manny and miguel could kick his cheating butt
Floyd should have fought Tony instead of baldomir, but was afraid after he seen what happened cotto? Am I picking you up right? Floyd fought Bald in 06, 2 years before Margo v cotto
Due to the scandal and getting demolished by Mosley at the height of his emergence, doesnt get the credit he 'should', had there been no scandal. He often gets looked at as a fairly basic average type workhorse fighter. Average fighters dont demolish prime cintron, dont take Martinez's 0, dont force Miguel Cotto to kneel, dont take prime Paul Williams to the brink, or be one of peak Pacs hardest fights at the time. Unless.... maybe, if they have casts in their gloves, idk. Anyways... if he never actually cheated, hes underappreciated imo.
Margarito is a beast among men, and yes a special fighter. Fine he lost a few times, but only to the elites, and yet even in losing, he took a piece of their soul with him. He was the very definition of relentless, and it's a pity that Cotto has milked the complex far from conclusive incident with Mosley as a way to justify what happened to him, which was a merciless beatdown, by a bigger stronger man, similar to what happened at the hands of Pacquiao. It wasn't bricks that beat Cotto, it was the willpower and chin of Margarito that beat Cotto, who's a ***** for trying to undermine Tony's crowning achievement. A healthy Margarito with a good eye beats him in a rematch as well, hell he was starting to do the same to Cotto the second time around while injured. Here's a few of Tony's other masterpieces. I enjoyed his fights. He may not have been the most talented, but with his chin and relentless pressure he was able to take on more skilled opponents and break them down. I think he would have been a serious threat to Mayweather, but totally over that, it didn't happened, I'm fine. The whole wrap scandal for sure threw in an asterisk for all his top wins for me, but also knowing the corruption and state of boxing view it as a 50-50 possibility. The pictures of the wraps looking like regular gauze and him still giving Cotto a tough go the second time around makes me think he still had the natural goods. I do think the way he fought, face first defense, and in particular the fight with Mosley ended his prime. Basically a good fighter with potential for greatness, mired in controversy.
Above average skills (great pressure fighter) w/ a granite chin, incredible stamina, and high work rate. Tony was a problem for anyone.
