Getting distracted by your father living the high life might be a brand new, never before seen excuse. We really are in bizzaro world where the 23 year old hotheaded rising star is a model of dilligence and it's his old man blowing it. I like Lopez but I kinda hope he loses just so we can add it to the record book.
Honestly, there's the potential that if Lomachenko puts 6 rounds on Lopez, he's going to quit...either that, or he will come out with emotion and get put down. I like Lopez as a fighter, but I cannot stand the arrogance he pushes because of his father. Don't get me wrong, the confidence is great when you're in the ring, but Lomachenko will use that confidence as a weakness - as he has done in the past. Lopez father is a bully, and he tried to bully Lomachenko in a very cowardly way. That **** won't slide to an Eastern Euro fighter. All those other dudes that quit, that's because they genuinely thought that Lomachenko was hype and it wouldn't happen to them. As soon as they didn't have an answer and they saw the writing on the wall, they quit. Lopez has already shown his father is his weakness and that things aren't great in their camp. If Loma makes it 'embarrassing' to Lopez father, something is going to happen. And it won't be at a loss to Lomachenko...
This reminds me of the dynamic between Miguel Cotto and his uncle Evangelista before the first Margarito fight. Teo's body language at the family gathering w/ his cousins spoke volumes. His cousins were talking about Teo's dad and Teo was tense as hell; very uncomfortable. Evangelista was Miguel's head trainer even though the two weren't on speaking terms except for 'double the jab', 'do you need water' etc. At a certain point, Lopez probably has to wonder why he's putting himself through this if being around his own father is enough to bring him to tears on camera. Nonito Donaire had to split from his dad for years for similar reasons.
