I think Ray wins a hard fought decision.

 

If he had Canelo's judges he might be able to pull it off.

 

I don't imagine SRR/Golovkin would be as closely contested as Canelo/Golovkin was. I think Robinson would separate himself from Golovkin, quite conclusively.

But, I take your broader point about "Canelo's judges", nonetheless.

 

Forget separating himself, I don't think Golovkin sees the distance with the Lamotta IV Robinson.

He's just too available to hit to deal with Ray's machine-gun like firepower.

I don't care how solid his chin is, there's only so many Robinson check hooks that he's gonna walk into.

 

Agreed. I think, in his Prime, Golovkin tended not the blow-up above 170 and I'm pretty sure he has registered unofficial, fight-night weigh-ins of sub-170.

Watching Golovkin against Ouma, who was every bit a Light Middleweight, one can see a prime Golovkin's leaner fit at 160.

 

A stoppage shouldn't be ruled out, of course.

 

I think people get waaayyyyyyyyyy too overblown about the weigh-in thing, and it seems I'm in the minority with that. It gets very annoying.

There's a few fallacies that people don't get. The biggest one is the false thinking that fighters with a same-day weigh-in came into the ring weighing the same as what they stepped on the scales. They weren't. It's ridiculous.

They were all putting on about 4-7 pounds by fight time.

It's universally known that Lamotta, even with a same-day weigh-in, probably came into the ring at like 170.

Golovkin outweighing Robinson by let's say, 6-7 pounds, is not gonna tip the fight in his favor.

I think I reached my tipping point on the weigh-in thing last week, when some idiot said that with a same-day weigh-in, Juan Diaz would be a welterweight.

Tiny ass Juan Diaz a welterweight in any era? LOL.

 

Ggg is ko'd. Weight disparity would mean nothing to Robinson.

 

GGG certainly has more letters in his name....so he has that going for him. Slightly leveling the playing field.

I have seen and admired SRR. He's probably the best skilled offensive guy of all time. If you want your mind blown, there is an article out there that says he didn't fight the top black talent ( Charle Burley, Williams, those guys ) but did fight Turpin a black man from K and lost. A topic for another thread is SRR's missing on on many top black talents. Yeah he beat a smaller Armstrong, but Armstrong was past it.

Is Turpin or a slower Jake Lamotta really better than GGG?

Anyway as skilled as Robison was he was hit a bit too often on film and never fought a middleweight puncher like GGG. So there is certainly chance for an upset here. I'd go with Robinson on points, as he never took a ten count, and had fantastic footwork, but it would not an easy night for Sugar Ray.

GGG was past his prime by the Canelo fight. He won it. And he out landed Jacobs in 8 to 12 rounds with one round even, plus floored him for a 10-8 round. The judge who voted for Jacobs should be ashamed of his card.

Given he was weighing 167-168 for his LHW fights this seems very unlikely
