Incredibly disappointing first half. Loma underestimated Lopez's IQ, speed, range & power. Great to see Lopez so composed, focused and stuck to his gameplan.

Loma showed heart and had some great moments. Well guess Loma has been dealt with.

Yeah in the 12th round with all the chips on the table he beat the **** out of Loma. That made him the the clear winner and better fighter, at least he was tonight.

I think it becomes a mental issue. You get used to the slow pace, trapped in it, and it´se very hard to break that cycle. Especially if the opponent won´t let you do what you are trying to do do.

We gotta respect both for taking this fight, and I think part of that respect is that if Loma was #1 before and Lopez is #1 now then Loma only goes down to #2.

Otherwise why take risky fights? Can't let guys move up sitting on the couch.

    What next for Lopez?

I heard there is no rematch clause.. I'd like to see one though but Lopez might move on, I think it was him who didn't want the rematch clause so why would he grant one?

Anyway, let him enjoy his win but.. Who Necks? Who Necks?

It would be a travesty to boxing if that mumbling idiot Davis beat Lomachenko.

I still favour Loma to beat him.

Who knows, maybe Davis and Mayweather will finally get the courage to face Lomachenko now.

I don't think he knows that. He just said the biggest name that came to his mind.

I'm 63 years old with arthritis and could have easily taken those punches

Btw it was very impressive that Loma never really came close to a knockdown. Some of the shots he took were brutal. I'm sure he's in a lot of pain right now, possibly in more pain than he's ever been.

Let's put this baby to bed:

Yes, yes, yes, 119-109 is a terrible scorecard but having it even one round over the draw line for Lomachenko would be just as bad if not worse. There weren't seven rounds for him any more than there were 11 for López.

:lol:One round made him the better fighter?
Nah. Loma had a bad gameplan and Lopez made him pay for it. Tonight Lopez got the win and was the better boxer, but overall? It´s not clear at all, like you said before.
It was a close fight and Loma pretty much gave away the early rounds.

I had a very strong gut-feeling that Lopez would win. I've never been happy about Loma campaigning up at 135 because he's giving away huge physical advantages to all these guys and eventually you're going to run into someone who is also a special talent and who is just too big and powerful for you unless you cherrypick or avoid certain fighters.

One thing I'm always wary of is when you face someone who is not only much bigger than you but can also either match you for speed or is faster than you because speed and power is always a very dangerous combination and when it's coupled with a size advantage and a reach advantage it's extremely potent. Loma just couldn't afford to take many chances because of the size, power and counter punching ability of Lopez. But in addition to that Lopez is also very athletic, explosive and skilful and that whole package is just too much to give up in a weight class one or two above your natural one and especially when you're coming off a 14 month layoff and that ring rust was evident in the first half of the fight.

Loma needs to head back down to 126 or 130 because it was always going to be a tall order for him to try and unify up at 135. Linares, Pedraza and Campbell are excellent fighters but Lopez power and explosiveness is on another level and he has savage one shot KO power in both hands, enough to drop massive teak-tough 135 pounders like Commey like a sack of potatoes with a single shot. Lopez will be heading up to 140 very soon and he's going to end up at 147 within a few years.

In hind sight you are right. It's not like it was difficult for Loma to hit Lopez when he decided to throw punches.
