He was too afraid to let his hands go. You could see how much he felt the power just from shots hitting his arms and gloves. Once a body shot really sunk in he stayed in his shell for longer.
That is probably true but surely a true champion should be able to find a way to avoid being hit but at the same time get his punches off.Loma was very disappointing
Really disappointed with Loma last night.. just a step too far in terms of size and weight. Take nothing away from Lopez though.. what a special fighter he could be. Don’t think it was ever a 119-109 fight but the right man won for sure
To be fair Loma should get credit for the way he challenges himself. He's fighting at a weight class he shouldn't even be at, just came up against a very good young, huge 135lber with skills and big power. Not like it was a one sided beat-down. Reading some of the comments in the press, feel like he's getting **** on. How often do we see fighters not taking risks! I think he'd take a rematch but like the Salido fight he won't get one as I expect Lopez will move up.
To say that it was Lopez’s power that stopped Loma doing his work does him a bit of an injustice I think. He’s fighting at a weight were any of these lads could chin him. Linares had a stone on him and would have bingo’d him if he could have landed clean. The reason was because of Lopez’s own brilliant footwork and jab that neutralised Loma’s movement. Lopez’s shot variety also made it very difficult for Loma to step around him. That uppercut he throws caught Loma a few times. Loma had some great moments in the fight, and had Lopez in trouble a couple of times but the right man got the decision. Loma can go down a division or 2 and dominate. He deserves credit (like Mikey Garcia) for risking his record to see how far he could go. I don’t think he retires, that doesn’t damage his reputation at all imo.
For Lomachenko to compete with the big elite level lightweights or win a rematch, he would need to resort to the same type of strength of conditioning program that served Manny Pacquaio so well. Alternatively he could take a leaf out of Mayweather's book and make them weigh in at 130 with an additional rehydration clause. Last night proved trying to do it clean and fair really is a bridge to far in the modern era.
called it complete wrong great performance from lopez personally had him up 8 to 4 or even 9 to 3 worthy winner and he will be hard to beat
If you knew nothing of either and watched the fight, you would say "there must be levels to this business." Lomachenko not being able to land more than two shots a round for the first 7 then getting bested badly when both were fatigued in the 12th was quite a shock to be certain. I thought Lomachenko would stop him in the middle rounds, boy was I sleeping on Lopez this whole time.
No chance. He already said before the fight he will be moving back down to super featherweight or featherweight. He was never a lightweight. At his weight class aint nobody gonna beat him. There's a lot of big wins ahead for Loma.
