From a viewing POV for the Matchroom audience the obvious choice is Babic. He’d take the fight at short notice and it becoming a minor Matchroom ‘name’. The issue is that a loss for either Babic or Allen (particularly Babic) would derail them as a marketable product for Matchroom.
£20 is worth about 3 times as much to me as it did before March. I absolutely love boxing but I’m priced out on this one. We are going through the most painfully economic times for almost everyone. We’ve all had to adjust yet Sky carry on regardless. Will be rowing a boat on this one.
Although it was a odd match up no one saw coming I was in a way quite looking forward to Allen vs Hammer. A fight against Lenroy Thomas would be a big let down in comparison and pointless really. Would rather they cancel this fight and get Bakole vs Kuzman on. That was a great fight. Wasn't it supposed to be re-scheduled? No mention of it or Bakole recently at all.
Hearn mentioned previously about looking to reschedule the Bakole vs Kuzmin in the Whyte vs Povetkin 2 card a while ago but nothing has been confirmed and it's seems to have gone quiet regarding it.
Babic would be a handful for Allen because I think he would be relentless and land a lot on him, even if he gassed I think he'd still be able to keep up with Allen. Honestly, since getting schooled and receiving a cauliflower head from David Price, nearly 18 months ago, he's posed with a KFC, had one farcial fight against the Jam Roly-Poly that was Dorian Day Job Darch and then nothing, his conditioning is going to be terrible, he'll be rusty, he hasn't got the hunger for it anymore, "fight anyone, anywhere", he gets offered Dubois, he doesn't play ball. I understand he's looking after his health but you can't say one thing and do another.
Very disappointed. I was genuinely backing Allen here by a surprise KO. Btw any news on Pricey? Surely he's going to be either on Povetkin - Whyte or Joshua - Pulev card.
I hope this PPV fails badly. I mean, I don't care what other people do with their money but if second-rate fighters have got the idea in their heads there's a "lucrative PPV payday" for them in any second-rate fight ... and another one after that, win, lose or draw ..... we get to the stage where they begin refuse to fight for anything less that £ X million, and then that 'diva' mentality trickles down to the undercard fighters who are fourth-rate fighters at best .... and before you know it any fifth-rate pug with a twitter account and a willingness to talk to Kugan Cassius for half an hour is demanding title fights and a bag of cash. Oh wait .... what's that ? ..... oh, it's already happened.
Imagine John Fury when he was 30 years younger in today's world, there'd be no fighting Akinwande on a weeks notice and having a fry up the day of the fight, actually he'd probably still do the latter and go Instagram live whilst he eats it.
Allen spinnig that he wasn't fit for Thomas 1 - Yet he was nearly at a career low weight. I'd rather Allen fight Little, thats about his realistic level. Probably a small step up from Darch and depending how the fight goes the winner could fight Babic or Wardley (if a belt becomes vacent)
If you don't row the boat on any Matchroom PPV you are a mug. The PPV cards of late have been absolute pony, and with no fans will continue to be. Usyk vs Del...... A Ukrainian vs a Brit with 9 losses for no belt on PPV Povetkin Vs Whyte...... A 41 year old Russian vs a Brit that he just iced for no belt on PPV Joshua vs Pulev ....... carnt really say AJ is not PPV as he is, but lets be honest Pulev is shite and its a shite fight that no one cares about (I know its a mandatory but its still pony) Yet we are getting Dubois vs Joyce in a proper 50-50 on a standard BT card Hearn is taking the fans for a ride and has been for a long time and with the current situation it will only continue. Cometh the hour. Cometh the PPV mug.
Whilst i agree massively with this don't forget one week after the Joyce DDD fight we more than likey will have Fury vs the number 15 ranked fighter on BT PPV
Yeah, it's ironic that the most appealing fight is the non-PPV. The one I'm second-most interested in is the Povetkin-Whyte rematch but there's no way I'm buying it.
