Impressed because Lopez demonstrated poise and control and executed a nice jab and tremendous bodywork. At the same time, it was a disappointing performance. When you have a significant advantage in size, power, and age over your opponent, and he's not doing much nor is he known for concussive punching power, you FORCE THE ACTION, WALK THE MOFO DOWN, AND GO FOR THE KILL. Look at Pacquiao in the Thurman fight. If a small, semi-shot, ancient, part-time Pacquiao can go on the attack and walk Thurman's ass down throwing power shots in the opening round, why couldn't Lopez impose himself on Lomachenko? Can you imagine a prime Pacquiao fighting a much smaller man, who was 10 years older, and playing it safe w/ jabs and counters? Impressed but not impressed.
Yup. It'd be like Pacquiao fighting Pedraza and boxing safely. Actually, not even as Pedraza is bigger than Pacquiao on fight night.
Completely disagree. Just because he didn't do what a seasoned vet like Pac did is irrelevant. It's a difference of styles.
I don't think Lopez was fighting safe though. It was more a case of Loma just running away. He could have won the tour de france. Loma's footwork is so good that it was hard to cut off the ring when he's in full run mode.
I was disappointed Loma didn't go full ham on him like he did on Pedraza who is unquestionably tougher and stouter chinned than Lopez in round 11. He would've got him out of there had he done so but obviously we now know why he couldn't. Loma went ham level 10 on Pedraza for what seemed like an eternity at the time whereas he couldn't even muster a 2 against Lopez even when he had him hurt and in trouble.
That's cool. I personally wasn't impressed. And I don't think it's a seasoned vet move to want to pressure and overpower your significantly smaller opponent. In fact, when your opponent is not known for crippling power shots and he isn't throwing, it's a time to kill.
Lopez proved he was more manly and determined than Loma. If Loma was a self believer he would have sat down on some hard power shots all night long, but he was terrified of getting knocked out.
A seasoned vet recognizes when to do that and when not to. Teo isn't a seasoned vet, but he did what he had to do, not what Pac would do or what Pac fans think he should have done. Even w/o crippling power, Loma was dangerous because of his placement and follow ups. Teo being reckless or trying to change his game up could simply have been a disaster.
Thurman ain't no Lomo...The guy is class Pak...TOP class, even on an of night (if true) Teo did GOOD!
Lopez is explosive in the early rounds, it's not his fault Loma was afraid to get hurt and wasn't letting his hands go just running and very cautiously , It kind of reminded me of DLH vs Tito in the last 3 rounds but Loma did it for as almost 6 rounds.
