It was a good scrap. Justise was clearly the more talented fighter. Pretty accurate, hard to judge power because Opelu is very tough but did look hurt before the stoppage. Stamina was looking dodgy but had a second wind and kept his composure. Chin stood up to everything also. great start for the lad
I think the other posters covered it well. He looked pretty good to me against a solid opponent. Looking forward to his next couple of fights which hopefully will come in quick-ish succession.
The Juice is on the loose in the H/W division! I was a bit concerned at the end of 5. The other guy came to fight & was landing just enough to be of concern if the Juice ran out of juice. He came on strong in the 6th though & finished the job in the 7th. He's very quick, both with his hands & feet & is physically strong. I agree with the comment above about his power being hard to judge. The other guy took plenty before exhibiting any real signs of being hurt. What I'd like to see more of from Justis in future fights is an authoritative, fast, hard jab. He really had to work hard to win those rounds. If he could stay behind the jab a bit more & control rounds with it he would be able to preserve his energy better. Good fight though. I enjoyed it. He's supposed to be fighting again on 3 Dec. Opponent TBA. Congrats to the new Australian H/W champ! And well done to Django for mounting a very spirited & entertaining title defence.
It really hurts to see what's happening in boxing today... The way is going is just a matter of time before the sports gets ban... Tyson, Roy Jones, Bowe, DeLahoya, Chavez, Arce etc. In the days when there was only two entities ruling, these things would never happen. Boxers license would get revoke by the two governing bodies and that was final. One of these old fighters coming back is going to die and who's to blame ? Boxing for not having set limits.. So many things have changed... I love the sport but it really hurts to see what's happening.
Justis "Juice on the Loose" Huni 1-0(1) makes the first defence of his newly acquired Australian H/W title against Arsene Fosso 3-0(3) in Brisbane on 3 December. It's a battle of undefeated medalists from the last two World Amateur Championships. Someone's "O" has to go!
I don't know about either one of them, but if they are good prospects, is it not a little early for this?
One of them is 21 & the other is 37. So only one of them is really a good prospect. Tough fight for the young bloke to be sure, but I think he's up to it.
Fosso has sparred Huni in the past. He's taken a long road to the pro ranks and I hope he makes some good money out of the fight. If the money is decent probably a good call to take this fight now. Pretty interesting match-up actually.
I like Huni, he was one of the best super heavyweight amateurs out there. I was hoping to see him in the Olympics. IMO he went pro a little early. Most Samoan fighters are known for power and size. Huni breaks that mold as he's more of a boxer mover type with speed. A top prospect for sure. Goodall vs Huni would make for a great local fight someday,
He's qualified for the Olympics & is going (if it takes place). Turning pro should work out well for him. He can get fights in the lead-up to the Olympics while others can't & he can bridge the gap in experience between himself & the top 2 amateur Super Heavies - one of whom is 6 and 0 as a pro. The guy he's fighting in December gave the bloke from Kazakhstan (Kunkabeyev) a decent stoush in the semi-final of the World Amateur Championships in 2017. Sent him reeling across the ring at one point so Huni needs to stay tidy & try to avoid that happening to him. And of course if the Olympics doesn't go ahead, he just carries on.
