Would you agree that all fights are the same or agree that all fights are different? Think about it now.
Well Lopez is the Champ, Loma has to come and wrest the titles off him, Lopez confidence levels were high, now they are going to be stratospheric. Whatever happens as others have said Loma is going to have to engage lot earlier, giving your opponent rounds for free is a bad plan. Loma has done 12 rounds with Lopez so no fact finding required in the rematch. At 23 Lopez can improve his skillset, can Loma at 32?
Lopez can improve obviously but he's talking like he doesn't need to, and that's a bad sign for him IMO. Lopez did the job very well but there was still a lot of room for improvement. I think he could get a bit fitter for a start. 23 year old midget should be able to fight harder for longer IMO. His stamina was actually worryingly bad, its not like he's a heavyweight.
He can and he will get better. If he had stated postfight that despite needing to improve he was still too good for Loma then folk would have labelled him even more arrogant. Cutting the weight he did which is said to be in region of 25 pounds or so is not ideal for your fight fitness levels. May be a "midget" compared to the average guy weightwise but 5'8 is not necessarily midget heightwise, that is lot of body to limit to 135 pounds at weigh in, of course many other fighters have been tall and still fought at lower weights, i just don't think Lopez will continue at 135, unless he wants to kill himself to make weight each time. Ah well all the titles at 23 yrs old and still room for improvement, not a bad position for a boxer to be in.
I'd actually favor Loma in a rematch from what I saw. Lopez for whatever reason didn't want to infight, he would just grab, and Loma would punch him in the head and face. Also when Loma decided to let his hands go, he seemed to get the better of it, in terms of clean head shots. Lopez landed very little clean to the head. Now only Loma knows what type of heat he was feeling, to not open up more, but in a rematch, I'm pretty sure he would be on that arse from the start. I'd pick him to win a comfortable decision, possibly tasting canvas though.
It only happened because of the rithm change. Once lopez adjusted in 12 sLomo was about to take a nap and had to headbut to survive. (actually he spent from round 8 on trying to score a headbut, that was disgusting) In a rematch the fight would be similar, I guess. sLomo did not know how to stop teĆ³fimo's left hook and right upper when entering in the distance. And everybody and his mom saw that. Until teo was tired, and using a very big rithm change, he could not win some rounds. But when teo wanted, he was again eating leather like no tomorrow and without the ability to fight back. He goes aggresive before, he goes to the canvas.
