LIVE THREAD: Lewis Ritson vs Miguel Vasquez, plus full undercard. (Sky Sports)

There’s a lot of talk about the Ritson fight naturally, but that somewhat overshadowed the scorecard from the Ward v Essomba earlier in the evening. Essomba won the last 4 rounds pretty clearly for me and arguably at least 1 of the first 4. Michael Alexander had it 86-86 and Marcus McDonnell had it 85-88...both cards in which I thought were fair and reflected what I saw.

Spud O’Connor scored it 88-84 to Ward. That is absolutely scandalous scoring. It is just as bad as the Ritson v Vasquez scorecard. I don’t know what fight he was watching to get that score.

 

O'Connor's actual best excuse would be that he WAS looking at his phone during the whole fight.

If he says he was actually scoring this fight genuinely and he thinks Ritson really won then surely he's MORE likely to be sacked due to gross incompetence.

 

Given his age, his previous cards and the furore over this I'd expect the board will consider giving him a painting of a spitfire and send him on his way, thank him for his service.

Announce they've done there job and then we'll end up in the same position further down the line with someone who's just as bad with scorecards.

Then again he might just get a slap on the wrist and suspended for judging for 30 days.

 

Thing is, there are already judges/refs who churn out some awful cards. Michael Alexander scored that Ritson fight 115-113. Ian John Lewis is a dreadful ref and judge. Victor Loughlin has me shaking my head at times. In fact, it’s probably easier to name the officials who are alright...I don’t mind Mark Lyson and Steve Gray for example.

No power, no chin, no strength. Overrated speed and skills. He has nothing. The Salford lad moved up in weight just to beat him up Ashfaq isnt even good enought for British title level lol.. You should be fully used to your fighters failing by now. You are truly terrible at boxing.

Just don't understand this, his own opinion is clearly wrong and his judging methods are inept, yet they're satisfied with his scorecard because its his 'own opinion'. Don't know how he could justify his scorecard using the criteria which judges are meant to score fights on he can't just say he liked Ritsons style more he was clearly being outworked and outmanoeuvred landing very little of his own work

 

Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren can both demand that Spud doesn’t officiate on their shows if they wish. The BBBofC rely on both promoters for their main incomes, even more so now during this pandemic. There’s no reason why we should see that fat corrupt turd again but no doubt we will despite Hearn’s public grumblings, Spud’s cards have benefitted his fighters more than most.

 

Be like a gymnast tripping whilst running and just topedoing the horse and a judge giving it a 9.5.
