This film study shows how body mechanics work the same way with dance moves as they do in boxing, interesting that Lopez features in this vid and Loma took two years away from boxing to learn Ukrainian dancing. How important are body mechanics in boxing, and is natural talent a myth?

Body mechanics are everything. But there are a few sad facts that affect that for most fighters. First, most trainers are not teachers. Second, an eye for detail and attention to detail are sorely lacking in most of those training fighters. Third, it is easier to say someone is a natural and that you don't want to change the way they throw a particular punch than it is to teach them to do it right. Fourth, hardly anyone involved, not the fighters and not the trainers, has the patience to learn it right.

i dont agree with conte about road work. his methods do bring results, but so does road work. i would want to replicate the heart rate and intervals of a real fight. your body is smart, it adapts to repetition and becomes more efficient at the required task. the rate of oxygen delivery to the body at fight pace becomes familiar, and more manageable. you should supplement with training for explosiveness, so you can shift around quickly when needed. road work is a simple and measurable way of strengthening legs while taxing the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
saying it makes you slow is stupid. sure there is room to scientifically break it down to more precise ways of mimicking a fight, but that gets covered in sparring. its just a tool, not necessarily THE tool.
