Felix Tito Trinidad vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. at 147 lbs, Both Prime.

Floyd wasn't in his prime at 147, but was still very good at 147. He peaked in 2007 against Hatton (at 147) so I'll use that version. I can see Floyd winning a UD if he boxes for 12 rounds, but he'll have to move & not be stationary. However, I feel Trinidad will get him eventually, as Floyd didn't have the size or punching power to keep Trinidad off him. Trinidad KO in 7-10 after being behind on the scorecards.

 

Trinidad was a beast at 147, one dimensional, but that dimension was enough to make him stand out as an atg at 47 in my opinion. I think prime Floyd can confuse the **** out of him and stay out of harms way all night though.

 

This, if it goes to a decision I’d obviously favor Floyd, but he doesn’t have anything to keep Trinidad off of him

 

Thats a fair point. Trinidad put tremendous pressure on his opponents. His constant stalking mentally wears fighters down, and even bigger men barely discouraged him. He could hurt you through your gloves too. I think floyd can win, but it would feel like he was running out of time and space the entire fight.
As a mega trinidad fan of course I want him to win this hypothetical, but I still have to acknowledge his limitations. Still though, an extremely dangerous fight for floyd.

 

I do, I remember it well. And tito was much better at getting in people's ass than oscar was. If floyd shoulder rolled and parried Trinidad his body would still get beat up. Trinidad had that kind of power. The only thing I dont know is how Trinidad would handle Floyd's movement. But at some point he is going to pin him. Trinidad never stops coming forward and literally used to run across the ring. The more I write the more I favour Trinidad. He may just be a bad style match-up for floyd. I think if it were a 15 rounder floyd would not see the final bell.

Floyd would move and potshot all night beating Trinidad to the punch and making him miss time and again. Trinidad is quite open and he likes to exchange. But Floyd would look to beat him to the punch and slide off to the side. Tito's other issue is he doesn't really cut off the ring particularly well so I envision Floyd box at range, back off when Tito advances, potshots or counters, repeat. When Floyd goes to the ropes, I see him easily sliding off to the side. Rince repeat

 

Trinidad would break through and hurt Mayweather at some point. Probably knocked him down. Floyd would he ahead on the cards but he never fought a puncher like Tito at 47. Mayweather didn't use his legs defensively that much. He's gonna be in the pocket the size difference comes into play. A glancing blow would move him and that sets up the follow up.
Most likely scenario Trinidad wins on points after scoring a couple of late knockdowns.

P4P Mayweather would win a lopsided decision.
Felix Trinindad was one of the greatest punchers that ever lived. Either hand, precise, accurate and he was big at the weight. Felix had elite stamina allowing him to carry his power the distance. Unlike many punchers.

 

At 147, Trinidad. Floyd would never fight him though.

 

One thing Hopkins had that Mayweather didnt is size and strength. Hopkins was the bigger man and in reviewing his bout with Tito you'll see how effectively he used it to smother, pushback and at times knock Trinidad off balance. Also when Trinidad did land some punches it was on a full fledged middleweight with a great chin.
At Welter Trinidad isn't going to have to cope with that.
