Of course he was 'slow' , always has been, but he was in there with Usyk , which exaggerates it further somewhat.. he mentally drained Chisora as much as anything too , he looked like he was going into cardiac arrest at one point in his corner.. later on he even nearly walked out

He's a very skilled fighter with great stamina but he's simply outsized by the monsters at HW if he was their size no one at hw would touch him with his skill level. I still think he can be a factor at hw and will make some noise. If his chin takes power from a guy like aj or wilder he can beat them. Size not skill is his biggest limitation at hw.

 

Sure he's not the next Mike Tyson but nobody ever said he was. People questioned his chin at hw and he ate some big bombs. People questioned his power (which isnt the be all end all in boxing anyway) and he had chisora on ***** street a couple times.

 

Chisora is not an easy opponent for anyone. The fight was competitive but that doesn’t mean it was close. For me 9-3 Usyk is the right tally. DelBoy has nothing to be ashamed of but it was not really in doubt. Even in the first few rounds while Chisora was coming on Usyk was in no real danger.
Chisora kept trying the whole bout but got less effective as both fatigue set in and Usyk had him all figured out.
Personally thought it was a really entertaining fight. I do not understand how people don’t like Usyk. He is awesome and he seems like a genuinely likeable dude.

 

9-3 fight, Usyk did what we all thought he would, easily outbox Chisora who basically tried to shithouse his way to a victory.

Im not sure why it has to be painted better for either fighter, Usyk got some much needed experience at this weight.

 

I had it 115-113. Usuk won but havexto improve lot to beat top of division. I dont think he can do it

 

His chin and mobility were as good as ever, but not his volume. He was looking for 1 punch combos and landing 1-2s. He needs to go back to putting 5-6 punches together to handle HWs pressure better.

While his chin proved good for HW standards, It'll need to be great to beat AJ.

 

Chisora makes a lot of fighters look mediocre tbh. He’s not the sort of guy fighters are going to take as a voluntary. Which Usyk did do credit to him. I had him winning 8-4.

 

Usyk is a CW, arguably the best ever at CW but heavyweight is a different story. He out pointed a 37 year old Chisora. A decent win but nothing great. It was a fight that showed and can fight big heavy guys but it also showed the size is a factor. He ain’t going to get a title shot anytime soon so will be interesting to see who he fights next. There are tons of names out there to choose if he wants to make a statement.

 

Usyk outboxed a 37 year old shot fighter with 9 losses on his record who even in his prime wasn't a top 10 HW.

BTW before you accuse me of being a hater currently I'd make Usyk a favourite against all the top 15 HW's except AJ and Fury but last night proved very little. Much, much sterner tests ahead for Usyk.

Great thread. Spot on. And I'm not usually a fan of "slick" fighters. I'm more of a puncher's fan. And I don't even mean a brute. I really appreciate the classic technical style of say Alexis Arguello, Sergey Kovalev, etc. But at the end of the day I really love to get behind and support a guy who goes in there and one way or another starts to land some bombs and open up a can of whoop ass. I also make a distinction between slick and negative. That little troll like goblin Rigondeaux is not slick and never was slick no matter what narrative his delusional fan base (and why and how this guy ever managed to have a single fan is beyond me) tries to stupidly push.

But in this instance I'm super psyched about the slickster Usyk. Because his style is a breath of fresh air for this division. And he represents a contrast to the best Heavyweights that have dominated the belts in recent years. First in smaller size and second in skill and aesthetic beauty (I mean in the ring so don't get too curious about that comment).

Nobody really represents the painfully boring HW style better than Klitsckho. Every top HW of recent years has basically been doing a Wlad impression. Lumber around the ring, clinch, clinch, clinch, throw about 3 jabs a round, hug some more, stumble, almost punch themselves with their own fist. And then boom they land that cokked right hand flush and then the fight is basically over. They're just so utterly, completely, and ridiculously massive that the punch lands with such force your entire body feels like it's been hit by a 3 ton rock. And it's like there is a shock wave that emanates out 100 yards. Your whole body is numb and you're ready to go and fight is over shortly after.

And then you're like, well is that it? Yea, that's it. Fumble around the ring like a buffoon and stink up the joint, spend more time hugging each other than druggies do at a rehab counseling session and then land a shot and the fight is over.

Well Usyk is a contrast in every possible way to that. He's a relatively small man, with a relatively weak punch, who doesn't fight negatively, who maintains an actual workrate, doesn't clinch and hug and fights with an aesthetic flair.

 

8-4 is 116-112 which is one of the score cards. The other two were 115-113 which is 7-5.

I could easily see 3 rounds in the first half of the fight and 2 in second half of the fight going for Chisora. The cards to me seemed about right.

You can take a couple feel out rounds in boxing early but you can't take 6 of them like Loma did against Teo. Uysk's sense of urgency kicked on in the third round from what I was seeing. Chisora almost had to take a couple of rounds off as he punched himself out.

 

Chisora put all his chips into this one since a loss here he can close the door on any future title shots.

 

He is mandatory
If he dont budge he gets a shot at the WBO regardless of who holds it
