I was MULLING on this one earlier pal. I’m still resolutely certain given Brooks horrendous injuries, his weight struggles throughout his career and the fact he’s - unbelievably- boiling himself down to 47 again at this age, away from home against a supposed P4P king.. I don’t give him a chance. is brook going to find a new lease of life back down at 47 at this age? Coming off of two brutal Kos? I don’t see how he can but I’m interested to hear the case for Brook being a live dog here, cheers
I just dont think he has looked half as bad in his last two or three fights as many others have He isn't Brook of 5 year ago, thats for certain but clearly still a good boxer The male stripper debacle isnt half as bad a result when put in to context Went on to beat Horn and imo should have won the rematch Plus he was being trained by a clown
A moment in that fight that was telling was Paulie going nuts at him "you're losing this fockin fight" Degale just sitting there, Paulie going "you'll be crying in the fockin morning when you lose" and there was no change in Degale, he knew he was just there to get paid and hopefully last the distance, he knew his body was done.
He isn't the fighter he was. But a shot fighter doesn't beat Whyte and draw with Hunter in his past 2 outings.
The draw with Hunter is very, very debatable General opinion is he lost And Whtye got blasted with his final remaining qualities The punch selection and abilty to position himself to deliver such a blow Other than that he is done
Shot is an abstract concept. Tommy Hearns to me (and many others) was shot to pieces going into the Leonard rematch... Hopkins, Moore, Ali, Holmes, Holyfield and of course Duran are all modern era examples of seemingly shot fighters still having one or two amazing performances in them. Of course you can keep calling a fighter shot, because sooner or later that will prove the case, but that hardly makes you a genius. To me, it can only be used with hindsight, or else you are just guessing.
SHOT is the inability to take punishment as before. SHOT is also the inability to perform at 1/3rd as before. Leonard shot vs Norris. Couldn't take hits and retaliate efficiently. Mosley shot vs May & Nelo. Couldn't retaliate efficiently. Cotto shot vs Ali. Couldn't retaliate efficiently. Dela Hoya shot vs Pac. Couldn't retaliate at all. Ali shot vs Holmes. Couldn't retaliate at all. Tyson shot vs Lewis. Couldn't retaliate efficiently. Marquez shot vs Bradley. Couldn't retaliate efficiently. Pac shot vs May. couldn't retaliate at all. Roy shot vs Tarver. Couldn't take a shot. Holy shot vs Toney. Couldn't take a shot.
I gave Selby the benefit of the doubt for the Warrington fight. I thought the weight was the issue but last night showed he just doesn't have much left. For all the skills he has the guy has a ridiculous inability to do more. He tries to do the bare minimum to win a round.
Agreed. You always have that big shot in the heavyweights than can turn the momentum of a fight on its head. Povetkin still has that power, and the IQ to set it up...but the other attributes he had that made him a top level fighter have diminished. His feet were like cement, the speed and movement had gone, and his durability too...and that’s since the Hunter fight. It’s an over night thing. Whyte didn’t have the IQ or ability to recognise the threat. He still thinks it was a lucky punch.
My Mother. She tried to beat me up last week, I managed to stay on my feet, years ago she would have slumped me.
De Gale was shot around the Truax first fight. He was only ever getting worse by the time he faced Eubank. I know he said he wanted to get paid but god he was bad in that fight Vs Eubank Jnr, He couldn't do anything that shoulder injury ruined him totally.
