I was thinking NC after a lack of action, with both men falling out of the ring after prolonged clinching. Seems highly likely to happen with these two.
Arguello's the greatest super featherweight ever but regardless of whether Chavez was actually peak there he wasn't far off and I think he could spring an upset here. Chavez would have to use an all-out pressure game to do it but Escalera used similar tactics in his two fights with Arguello and had great success. And Chavez is better than Escalera in every department. I don't think it's crazy to see a Chavez win here at all.
WAR! One , The Nicaraguan A cold assassin Explosive power in both fist (Thus the Nick name name El Flaco de explsivo) Skilled, determined, and ruthless. The other The Mexican, applied relentless pressure, BUT!!! Wasn't a typical pressure fighter , defensively sound, slicker than most would think for his style of fighting, also Skilled, determined and ruthless. I favor Arguello slightly here. Chavez's better foot speed and angles, combo punching would get him to a lead early, But Arguello's jab, body punching and power shots would take it's toll and would be the difference in a long fight. Arguello should win a close decision in a fight of the year.
Hmm. I think I like Arguello by very close decision. For every "Oh wow, well Chavez looked great against Castillo and Rojas, and Martinez" moment, I also remember LaPorte and Lockridge. This isn't easy for either man.
Over 15, Arguello (close) on points for me. At 130, he was just a beast (although not the GOAT there, IMO) qnd Chavez wasn't quite the finished product. The styles favour Arguello, and at 130, I think he had a couple more strings to his bow. That last arrow makes the difference, and Arguello wins a decision. Great ****in fight though. It'd make the Bloody Battle of Beyron look like a slow day in the office. I would pick JCC at 135. Again, a brutal war.
