Could Frank Bruno have held on to the WBC title if he hadn't faced Tyson?

Tyson was the payday. Though im sure he could of made a defense or two if King wanted. Probably against fighters like Joe Hipp, A washed up Tony Tucker, Scott Welch

TYson was the worst possible fight for Frank .could of made some defenses against fighters for good money in the uk . Could of beaten plenty of fighters if he had stayed away from the very top blokes

Yup, agree with that. No one else was going to get Bruno that amount of money at the time so he thought, sod it. He knew he'd lose, he'd already tasted Tysons shots but he knew his time was limited.

Bruno could outjab Moorer with his longer reach and if he lands his right Moorer gets KO'd. If Moorer can stay in the fight he could maybe win late though but I think Bruno is all wrong for Moorer.

I don`t think Bruno could deal with Moorer`s southpaw jab and Moorer was a better combo puncher.

Fury is more skilled, AJ throws better combo`s and Usyk would have boxed Bruno`s ears off.

Bruno had the longer heavier jab and outjabbed everyone bar Tyson. I don't think Moorer's used of southpaw angles was particularly good. He was quite square on, which is why Foreman was able to take him out

Was Usyk always boxing the limited Chisora’s ears off?

Against washed up 'names' like Ruddock, Tucker etc. Bruno could have made very good money before cashing out against Tyson but then again nobody knew what Tyson had left in late 1995, postponing that fight meant potentially losing it altogether if Tyson lost against another opponent.

Frank took a bad beating but for the sake of his bank balance probably the right choice.

My feeling is that Bruno was too vulnerable. I don't think he would have held the title long.

Frank could have made a voluntary defence against a warm body but then would have found himself up against Lewis, Tyson or Holyfield and got starched.

Sure, Frank Bruno could've held the title for a while. The problem was Tyson and Lewis were his top contenders. And both had already beaten him.

However, after those two, there was a big drop off.

The WBC ratings when Bruno defended against Tyson were:

    Champion: Frank Bruno
    1. Mike Tyson
    2. Lennox Lewis
    3. Oliver McCall
    4. Tony Tucker
    5. Henry Akinwande
    6. Alexander Zolkin
    7. Jeremy Williams
    8. Larry Donald
    9. Evander Holyfield
    10. Andrew Golota

I could see Frank defending for a couple years against guys like Tucker, Zolkin, Donald, Williams, Golota and Akinwande.

Frank just had the bad timing of grabbing the belt from McCall when Tyson and Lewis were sitting right there waiting for their shot.

Bruno vs. Holyfield would've been fun, too.
