Are they really that bad for the back? I think if you use proper technique and do them moderately there really shouldn’t be any problems. Any exercise can be dangerous if done incorrectly but some people claim they’re dangerous no matter what. Has anyone on here had any negative effects from doing them?
The biggest problem with torso rotation is that we are not designed to do it. So don't do it. Concentrate on standard lower back core exercises (one leg pelvic raises, kettlebell swings, anything pelvic) and stretch your hamstrings, quads, hip flexors and basically any muscle that goes through your pelvis. DONT do those twist things where you grab the cable and rotate the torso. Never ever never ever.
My understanding is that bending is fine, and twisting is fine too. But bending while twisting is a good way to injure your back I'd personally only add resistance when it's in isometric contraction, so squats/deadlifts etc.
Primary reason, not to do it, is down to your Hips. Which only move, side to side and up and down 6 degrees. To protect, t the Coccyx your centre of Gravity.
Assuming your technique doesn't need work. Without going to a chiropractor a good bet is to find exercises like the bubble butt type youtube exercise videos - anything that works the muscles in, around and through your pelvis. The upper back will take care of itself. Yoga is another good one (but with a decent instructor) as that takes care of the stretching too.
Shouldnt a punch be thrown with minimal torso rotation? You are indeed rotating your torso but also rotating everything else at the same time so your upper body should be in line with your lower body. Unless that is still torso rotation
There are lots of ways. Some people promote hipdrive as the main rotation, others say to coil the torso (like a golf swing). In reality its a mixture of both but mainly determined by your flexibility, natural timing and desired result.
This may help you find something that works without much risk. Best of luck to you! https://www.noregretspt.com.au/inde...wisting-rotational-exercise-bad-for-your-back
