The truth about Mike Rossman is that he really was not that good. He fought an aging Galindez at the end of his career and fought the fight of his life .. to his credit it was still a big win .. however he really never defeated a top guy , lost the rematch to Galindez, was pummeled by Lopez, brutal KO'ed by Ranquello and completely outclassed and thrashed by Qwai .. I don't see the very best Rossman going more than seven or eight against Conteh who would completely outclass him ..

I never saw Mike able to change to a situation or be able to adapt. If a fight went according to his training he could be a legit world beater and impress but throw in something unexpected and he couldn't change. John had his basic style, weight on the back foot, jab and counterpunch but he was ring smart too, he could feint with the best and take advantage of how an opponent would fall for them. Mike falls for them and loses a clear decision.

Have to agree with all of these sentiments. Conteh late TKO/ RTD in a good fight.

I used to read the Ring at the drugstore. I would get so engrossed I would end up 10 feet away and not realize I had moved. One time a dude who worked there was like this isn't the library.

Mike Rossman was a tough guy but no where in the class of a Conteh .. Rossman was a fringe contender that caught an aging Galindez on an off night .. he was not close to being a great fighter .. he was a good fighter that caught a break and then was exposed ..

I have to go with John Conteh but Mike Rossman was a tough man. Might be a decent fight

Precisely how I envisage it. Conteh was just a shade under the great champions on an all time 175 lb man list. If John had have been more focused - not having 'out of the ring' problems, and had his right hand remained injury free,he'd have been an all time great, himself. No doubt in my mind.

Agree entirely, he went down the " Brothers " route, lacked motivation, partied too much, the sacked George Francis, the only trainer who knew how to wrap Contehs hands to reduce impact on his slender fingers and proud knuckles, big mistake...

But could he have beaten Galindez and Scott?

    LOL.

John Conteh is treated like Ezzard Charles on this forum.

I do think he beats Rossman, but Mike at his best would be competitive in a losing effort.

GOOD MATCHUP RICHARD, I THINK THE ROSSMAN WHO STOPPED GALINDEZ, WOULD BE A VERY GOOD ADVERSARY. REMEMBER THIS FITE IS BOTH "AT THEIR BEST"
