This fight is going to be one long cruel night for Roy Jones jr. Im not even sure if its going to be competitive.
In his last 3 fights he showed he still had the handspeed ..The thing is he does get hit allot more ..But Joe doesn't pack that killer punch to really have Jones worried ..Im picking Jones but would not be surprised if Joe out worked him ..That would be the only way I see him beating Jones but again this is not Lacy here ..I don't see a KO in this one ..
You certainly can be in great condition even if you're old. If Bernard were fighting a less active fighter, it probably wouldn't have caught up to him since his conditioning was fine vs Tarver and Winky when he set the pace, and he was an old man for those fights, too. Bernard didn't just magically fight at an uncomfortable tempo for shits and giggles; Joe forced the issue. I'll take it you don't argue my points about Joe deserving more credit for the win than he's getting though since you didn't bring 'em up. I'll take that. :good
Calzaghe will find this just as difficult as the B-Hop fight. Roy is a better puncher than B-Hop, he is also a far superior offensive fighter. Remember Joe fought an elite fighter (an elite who was far emoved from his best) and still struggled. Roy is another Elite fighter bur far removed from his best....but will still be a huge challenge for Joe...a severe increase in class from beating the likes of Kessler and Lacy.
I'll stand by my statement. You simply can't beat the aging process. Nothing left to argue. If you don't believe it, you haven't aged sufficiently enough to know or you are in denial.
I never said anything about "beating the aging process"- just that Hopkins was still in good enough condition to fight his fight for 12 rounds. Joe pushed it more than Bernard wanted to, and Bernard gassed. You're not even arguing my points anyways, so there is nothing left to argue.I already said Hopkins wasn't prime - but if a fighter's still good enough to give Tarver the worst loss of his career and be the first person to clearly beat Winky in years, whoever beats him on his turf, with a pro-Hopkins ref, is going to get due credit from me. That's the point.
Hopkins looked old and tired to me, like a man that didn't want to be in the ring. He doesn't belong in the boxing ring anymore and proved it to me. No credit from me for that 'fight'.
