Just watched an episode of Simpsons and a big fight started in the crowd. Just curious.

I'm sure there have been. Especially when the first round was accepted to be a feeling out round.

No referee worth his salt would allow that.

There definitely has been a fight where one punch was thrown.

I'm thinking of a couple rounds of Loma Lopez.

The closest I can recall is Zarate vs Pintor. Extremely slow feeler out first.

Various finish fights (bareknuckle and gloved) were said to have rounds with no punches, especially later with both fighters exhausted or injured. It's hard to know if it meant no punchees at all or no meaningfull punches with no film though.

    73 rounds with no punches:

Though, as BPV points out, there's no way of knowing, if it means no punches AT ALL... or just no hard/serious exchanges.

The boxrec descriptions can be rather ambiguously written (and are sometimes just inaccurate).

In this case I think it means that by the end neither were throwing any punches, not that there were no punches for the entire fight.

According to the Call the fight was decent until the 52nd round, with Hawkins scoring a knock down in the 51st. From the 52nd untilt the end neither seems to have done much.

The Examiner says they over exerted in the first 14 rounds after which they both were very cautious, but with some rallies, until the fight was declared off at the 73rd, with the ref saying if they were in condition they should meet tomorrow to finish the fight.

Like this one makes it sound like Nelson didn't make Moran weigh in, because Moran was heavier and he didn't mind.

It was actually that Nelson knew he was heavier than Moran (though that's fairly obvious given Moran fought at Bantamweight and was mostly a Featherweight).

Boxrec is an awesome resource, super valuable for current boxing and boxing history, but you really have to be carefull with it.

Possibly in Zolani Tete vs Omar Narvaez, one of the worst low activity and negative bouts I've ever seen. Truly despairing to watch.
