Can anyone see any justification for this guy continuing to be involved in this sport as a referee or a judge? He is beyond incompetent.

I thought the job he did in the Bredias super six fight was bad, when he somehow could not hear the bell ringing for 20 seconds but last night's display on the video replay of the Mohoney/Franco fight was one of two things. Corruption or incompetence. Either way, the guy is a trainwreck.

That was bad and worse when espn would silence the commentators for not letting public hear what others at ringside saw and their view.

    No shame in the sport.

They Bring in video replays, and still have the audacity to make a mockery of the sport for a simple decision.
it was clear and simple to see it was a thumb in the eye and there was only one decision to be made, yet......

    Unbelievable, disgusted.

Was thinking the same thing, Byrd looked like Joe Biden trying to decipher a code instead of what was obviously right in front of him,,,no head butt.

He's younger than Joe Biden....and more alert than Joe.

I don't know why I watch this sport....they bring boxing into the 21st century with replay THEN THEY IGNORE WHAT THEY SEE.

    Disgraceful.

No question but you know who his wife is, right? Adelaide Byrd. Yep, that Adelaide Byrd. These people are a disgrace to boxing. Do you know Pat Russell had Arredondo losing to Correa 80-72?! Arredondo won that fight. The fix was in. Robert Garcia was Correa's manager. And look down the list of the judges. Julie Lederman, Patricia Jarman, and Lisa Giampa are other real winners. And here is a glimpse of the brilliant character of a judge. Lisa's husband, Chuck Giampa, who was a judge for many years. A real class act.

Wait, why are people blaming Byrd for this? It wasn't his call, he seemed to be the one pushing for a replay and he seems to be the person who was showing everybody the punch that caused the shut eye. He was clearly overruled by someone else.

The interpretation of the replay rule appears to be that anything less than 100% cerrainty that the ref is wrong defaults to the refs ruling. That means since they couldn't 100% prove that nothing other than the punch started the swelling, they had to go with the refs call.
