Yep I can't see matchroom not resigning for Sky for the UK shows. Doesn't make sense to go with DAZN as they still will want to do ppvs.
Sky/matchroom deal is more than just boxing. As popular as darts is who is going to follow that to yet another pay wall? That's full of people who like the sport alongside others sky has. Same for boxing
Good points, I subscribe to Sky Sports but have been wondering since the sacking of the Soccer Saturday guys do I want to continue to give money to a racist company ?? The fact of the matter is Thompson, Le Tissier etc. were sacked essentially because they were white to make room for more 'diversity' ie. non white men, so now Soccer Saturday which used to be great fun is now filled with charismaless dullards who fit the 'profile', sadly yet another thing myself and many others used to enjoy destroyed by a discriminatory agenda which the majority of people disagree with. I've only kept my subscription (for now) because Sky have virtually all the PL games and I don't watch sport or anything else online for a variety of reasons I won't go into.
I’m quite conflicted as obviously it’s only £1.99 a month... but I don’t want to pay for another subscription service. And to be honest I’m not too bothered about watching the US fights live (unless it’s a Brit that I ‘follow’). So can catch catch up the following day on YouTube or other free streams. So it’s dependent on their UK fights whether I’ll eventually subscribe or not. Matchroom’s contract up with Sky in May? So if they decide to go with Dazn it’ll be the Summer at the earliest before any UK fights are on the platform I’d guess (and I’d imagine that the £1.99 price will shoot up)
Because I don’t want Dazn to be successful and saturate the market even further. So legally you need a BT, Sky and Dazn subscriptions to watch boxing in the UK (not counting Premier). And with UK live boxing there’s no chance Dazn keep charging £1.99 next year. Probably call it £9.99 minimum? People may say cancel your Sky but without going all Adam Smith on you... they’ve got Football, Cricket, Golf, Rugby League etc which I watch regularly as well as the Boxing. In the long term Dazn are only going to survive in the UK if they get Premier League football so by all means if they offered sports like top level Football, England Cricket and Golf then I’d have no hesitation in subscribing. Another thing which I don’t like about Dazn is that it’s Internet based rather than Satellite so it’s a minute or two behind Live which is annoying when I’ve watched football previously round mates and you’ve forgot to turn your notifications off. Plus, the picture quality isn’t always great, even on a decent Wi-Fi.
Great post - the 1-2 minute delay is real as tested with people watching games on Eleven Sports. Another great reason not to subscribe to a not even nearly live channel. Boycott DAZN and any Box Office events I say.
There’s just too many platforms with too many subscriptions. You have to be minted to have access to them all (legally).
Sign up, use an address in Poland, use a VPN for the fights and you’ll get all of them including Joshua for whatever the Polish equivalent of £1.99 is.
For 1.99 ill sign up for a month. Quite interested to see how slick the app is too. Wont pay more than that for matchroom USA and Ryan Garcia.
