April 6 1987, Marvelous Marvin Hagler defends his title against Donald Curry. Let us suppose that Donald had beaten Lloyd Honeyghan on Sept 27 1986, and this hypothetical match was made. Could Curry pull off the upset over a worn Hagler? Or would Marvelous Marvin have enough gas in the tank to defend against an undefeated Curry?

Curry's physical advantages disappeared once he moved up to just 154, let alone 160. Hagler was creaky as hell by '87 but the reason Leonard won was movement. Curry didn't move like that, which means Hagler's weakness would be less exposed.

    Hagler by stoppage.

Curry was a rolls royce of a boxer. His 1983-86 WW reign...i like to say he beat a quality version of every style...starling (peekaboo),larocca (runner/mover) jones (pressure fighter) mccrory ( tall rangy boxer) ...however than comes along honeyghan...a hybrid technical boxer/wild slugger.....hagler was a law unto himself stylistically....we're considering a prime Curry here who was a defensive master...the face first fault that pretty much ended his career as an elite operator in 1987-1989 wasnt yet apparent....either way i cant see curry evading the long fast slashing shots of hagler by standing in that gunfighter pose to counter...or evading haglers switch hitting....marvin would be sharp as a razor ....that only leaves curry adopting a a stick and move tactic over the 12...i could be wrong but i cant see that ...curry wasnt as good dancing as srl..

If I was making a hedge on this, I think Curry would do enough to survive to the final bell. But Marvin just edges him. Still don't think Curry has the strongest chin, and was lucky that he fought McCrory 2 years later than he was supposed to. But he was strongly skilled, and can see him giving Marvin fits. But Marvin fading the last couple of years after Duran would help him survive.

What would be your reasoning behind this one? Curry was far too good for Milton - different level of fighter.

I think Curry would always have beaten McCrory.

    Hagler wins this.

Curry may have some good moments though

Staying at 147 too long was detrimental but skipping 154 wouldn't have panned out either.

It is an interesting fight. I see Marvin taking over. Some might think if Curry is quicker and hitting Marvin, maybe Marvin would be sitting back like he was with Duran and just posed and the rounds go by, but in this fight I think he would take a chance and Duran was so smart when he had a guy in range. Curry was smart, but he did not have Duran's boxing instincts to see something and figure that out. Duran would never have fallen for that McCallum move and backed up. Maybe that is not fair to Donald Donald was smart with speed but he didn't find the weakness Duran would sometimes find and then go for it like Duran with his right hand on Hagler. And then Hagler had to find a way to neutralize that right because it was swelling up his eye. With Hearns I think Marvin knew he was going to get hit, so Marvin's mindset was I am going to get hit and swing and take it. Marvin was great when he knew how he had to fight, but he did not do well adjusting when the fighter did something different. So could Donald make it different? I don't think so. And Marvin's jab was always underrated. 75 inch reach and southpaw.

So you want to pretend Donald Curry didn't get stopped in either 1986 or 1987 (which he did), so his awful losses are wiped away, but Marvin Hagler is still "worn?"

So you want us to pick between a "make believe" Donald Curry who never existed against Marvin Hagler?

Duran vs Hagler was such a nuanced fight. . 2 masters of competing ideologies.....Curry had the skills and mastery of his craft...but he waant the hustler and survivor Duran had had to become after no mas ....and the new situation he found himself in......Curry was mentally tough and the 2 fights he was billy goated in a row should have earned lengthy bans....he started swelling up getting cut after those plus the honeyghan butt..he never would have fallen for Mccallums trap 2 years earlier....imo.....
