I am glad that you mentioned, the newspaper clippings, that Day didn't win a round against Armstrong. Most NY newspaper sportswriters, were part and parcel controlled by Uncle Mike Jacobs, including the NYSAC. Of course, they wouldn't want to say anything that would put Armstrong in a bad light, affecting (hurting) his next Gate . Mr. Day was ahead of Armstrong, half blind ( right eye completely shut and other just a squint) from the 6th rd. to 12th rd. Day got his eyes closed not by Armstrong's fist, but his elbows. In the 8th rd. the Commission Doctor came into the ring to examine Hank's badly gashed eye, and wouldn't dare, stop the fight making Davey the winner. In the 11th rd. Hank came out and hit Davey five times in the groin, giving Mr. Day that rd. Hank hit low in all the other 10 rds. Yes, I agree Davey took a terrible beating, much worse then Ross. After the Armstrong fight, Pian & Winch offered Henry $35,000 for a re-match, if Uncle Mike Jacobs thought his House Champion could beat Davey, he would of grab it. The 10th rd. saved Lou Amber's from getting knockout. The other House Champion of Uncle Mike. Oh, yes, Amber's, also was offered $35,000 for re-match, he too turned it down.

Armstrong ( after the Day) three weeks later, went over to Jolly Old England to fight Ernie Roderick, with a damaged paw. Eddie Mead Hank's manager, insisted that Henry have two or three times the amount of gauze on his hands or he won't fight. Also, Roderick told Armstrong to leave his vitamins home, they're illegal in UK. Davey never took any vitamins. Mike Jacobs called in Pedro Montanez to beat Davey, and the winner gets to fight Armstrong. I guess the stars were Davey, he badly beat the Goliath Fighter Montanez and the ref. stop the fight calling in the same Commission Dr. to look at Pedro's bloody eye, technically, the fight was over when stopped, Dr. didn't need to come in. Did you know Davey was unmarked after the fight, except Davey's left arm being crimson (red) around the elbows from the punishment it took. Joe Jacob's manager of Max Schmeling saw the Day and Montanez fight, and said," Day is a smart boy he churns his punches in Pedro's eye." Most of the New York sports writers headline articles were biased saying, "Montanez was beating Day with hard body punches and was ahead when the referee stopped the fight." The newspapers were devoted to Mike Jacob's "despot" in building up the Gate for Montanez's next fight. Armstrong fought the loser Montanez instead of Davey, go figure. Jack Miley, NY Post News "Armstrong Ducked Davey" Davey softened up Pedro Montanez (compliments of Mr. Day) surely Armstrong got the benefits. I guess Jones and Pian where friends, because Davey got sold out by his own managers, and they made a lot of money. Dempsey did his job, making Sammy the Champion, by one point. This is the same time Tony Zale, Davey's stablemate was hitting his stride. I've got all the clippings from other Newspapers to verify everything stated.

Like I said, your accounts of these fights are so ridiculously biased and one sided that they veer squarely into the realm of fantasy.

 

Let me put your mind at ease. Everything I stated is factual and verifiable, printed in NY newspapers, by unbiased sportswriters. I have over 500 clippings on file that you obviously don't have. Henry Armstrongs custom, long established, repeated practice of hitting fighters south of the border, when he knows he is trouble and will resort to win the fight at all cost. He turned (Mike Jacobs) down $35,000 plus a percentage of the gate (est. $100,000) to fight Day in Chicago. He wouldn't be able to get away with low punches, as he did in NY. Armstrong, didn't get away with that, in his fight with Lou Ambers, Armstrong lost five rounds on fouls, and Ambers won his Title back. John Lardner, renown New York syndicated sportswriter stated in his column one year after Sammy Angott became the Lt. Wght Champion by beating Davey Day. He reported, "Sammy Angott won the title from Davey Day in Louisville in 1940 under circumstances of the strictest, secrecy, but secret got out when one of the three witnesses blabbed. Would you care to see what, Jack Miley of the New York Post wrote about Davey? Oh, did I mention Davey never suffered a cut eye, that would be a given, "He was a Master Boxer." What other fighters would you like to talk about from the 1930's and 40's. They were all great guys. I met a few.

For fights that I wish we had footage of that isn't of Greb I think Langford - Gans is up there and it goes relatively unmentioned in these kinda threads, kinda surprising. Eddie Booker - Archie Moore and Eder Jofre - Vicente Saldivar probably top the list.
