Is anyone else convinced that Joe Joyce can surprise and beat Daniel Dubois?

im not sure why anyone would see it as a surprise

 

While it seems "right" that DD is the fav I'm like many here that think this is a hard fight to predict or handicap.
At what point (odds) would fans feel good putting some $ on JJ?

My main concern about JJ, besides that he's slower than molasses in January, is why is he making a move at 35? What's he been waiting for?
Either don't know or can recall some of the details of his career but something doesn't look right. JJ is a big, strong plodder, who throws lots of slow, heavy shots. Might be interesting while it lasts.

 

If Joyce survives the early rounds I fully expect him to win, does worry me how easily he gets hit though.

 

I wouldn't say I'm convinced but I definitely believe Joyce has a fantastic chance and see this as a genuine 50/50.

I know this isn't a measure, but it's interesting.. After watching Lartey get blitzed by Wardley over the weekend I think it's fair to question Dubois and his power a little bit.

We will see, If I was forced to gamble, right now, after watching Wardley serious hurt Lartey in that way.. I'd probably go with Joyce.

That could change this week, depending on what I see at pressers, weigh in, the build up, but that's how close I think this is, it really could be decided on something small.

 

That's a good point, Joyce does seem to get touched rather easily.

If Joyce enters the ring half warm or cold he is setting himself up for a big KO

I think Joyce will start to outbox Dubious around the 3rd and be in control for a few rounds. My gut says Dubious will be behind on all cards and then BAM—-KO Joyce around the 9th

 

I have it the completed opposite
I still say it’s a 50/50 fight and the first guy to land solid will win by KO

 

I lean towards your prediction, I think Joyce takes a better shot than Dubois

 

I've gone back and forth with this but now leaning towards Dubois because Sam Jones reminds me of Bellew and Bellew is bad luck.

I like both of these guys and don't really want to see either of them lose. Joyce is great fun to watch and very hard to beat. He may be slow but his ability to string fluid combinations together from every angle in sequence nullifies that lack of speed.
If he doesn't get you with one , he has 10 more coming straight through.
Not a lot of HWs have the balance and coordination to string punches together with good balance. He's like Rocky Marciano in that sense.

DD is in trouble if he allows himself to get overwhelmed. Thats how Joyce wins the fight. DD hasn't shown any ability to box on the backfoot.

 

It would be a huge upset in my humble opinion. Dubois is the real deal.

 

If Dubois gets success early on and noticibly hurts Joyce, I think Dubois will build on that success and win between 6&8 by stoppage. The Jab and LH to the body are absolutely key in breaking Joyce down and emptying his tank. If however, Joyce weathers an early storm or pressures Dubois hard from the first bell, I could see Dubois folding by around the 5th round.

The first few rounds if not the first few minutes could very well present us with the likely winner.

I've been fence sitting a bit with this one and originally favoured Dubois but, I think Joyce is going to be relentless and do to Dubois what Dubois did to Gorman.

 

I just don't see it with Dubois. I think Joyce beats him fairly handily, but then I picked Gorman to beat Dubois as well so there's clearly something I'm not seeing with him that others can.

It's a tricky fight to predict though. I just think Joyce's constant forward pressure will nullify Dubois's effectiveness and have him expending a lot of energy trying to keep Joyce off him. Joyce is slow and hittable, but he's also kind of hard to read because he puts out such a high workrate and is constantly either punching or moving or waving his hands or jerking his body from side to side. You don't really get any lulls in the action, and have to possess sharpness and good movement to time him and get away before one of his big clubby pillow fist punches catches you, and even if you catch him clean he's got good enough punch resistance to take most shots without halting a step.

I also think the speed difference isn't as pronounced as many think it is. Dubois is the marginally faster man, but he's way more readable and orthodox in his style, and not really the most accurate or stunning of punchers. He just kind of plods after you throwing spearing jabs then unloading heavy but predictable combinations when he has you against the ropes. We don't really know how good he is on the backfoot, and I think Joyce is definitely going to test him in those categories.

I think the fight ends up looking a bit like a slow motion Cotto vs Margarito I, and I think a lot of people abandon Dubois in the aftermath or try to say I told you so after having done nothing of the kind. Happy to be proved wrong of course, but I'd feel like a fraud if I just sat on the fence. So I'm going with Joyce by late rounds stoppage.

 

Not al all. I pick Joyce to win. He can punch and take a punch for sure.

Dubois won't be able to take what Joyce offers in my opinion. WHo has Dubois been tested against in the amateur or pros? He might be able to out box him though as Joyce is on the slow side and sloppy, though I'm not terribly impressed by Dubois as a boxer. Age could be a factor here in Dubois favor.
