Prime Liston, he was very good, rate Machen as a title challenger out of 10 though. Elusive Blue This content is protected
Machen was a pretty damn good fighter that had some solid wins. I think he was the first fighter to beat Quarry. Aside from getting crushed by Ingo he always gave good solid fights and was clearly a top ten guys from the mid fifties to the mid sixties.
Does anyone think these crappy colorizations look better than the original? I think I offended someone before when I said it looks like he just spilled coffee all over the print. This particular one is a real mess. (LOL) I keep thinking they actually shared a color film of a fight (because they did have color film back then). And then I open it and it's that slop. Watching this fight, it does not make sense that Ingo kayoed Eddie Machen in round 1 on Sept 14 1958, when Eddie went 12 rounds with Sonny Liston on Sept 7 1960.
Not to mention Machen gave both Quarry and Doug Jones their first loss, beat Joey Maxim twice and took Patterson, Foley and Harold Johnson the distance on close fights. I keep saying it on this forum, Ingo was much better than people on hear think. He was much more than just a right hand. I think Rocky realized that when he was training to come back. Ingo was for real.
Thanks enjoyed it. Amazing how both Eddie and Floyd recovered following their severe, dramatic losses to Ingo. Funny how the Liston - Folley fight isn’t available, considering Liston’s other fights from the late 50’s onwards, are! Interesting with the solo commentary by Chris Schenkel. Fine with me, now we’ve got 3 or 4 prattling on as if they’re doing a radio commentary. Would like to see Dempsey - Willard and the Floyd - Ingo trio colourised.
