....the Ali shuffle? I didnt see him using it after his comeback in 1970, probably because he was too fat and heavy. I also don't understand why there aren't more Ali fans on the forum. Muhammud made the sport what is is today. All these other pretenders with fast hands and feet, every tom, dick and harry involved in superfights but arent really worth a damn. Of course I'm talking about SRL and Floyd. Nobody cares about that big mouth Floyd who doesnt have any size to begin with. At least Leonard didn't have a big mouth on him like all the other big mouths. It all started with Ali and because of him the trend of the superfight continues today. Most of the superstars since arent worthy of shining his boots.
All three fighters you mentioned were the truth, and I give special mention to Ali and Leonard as two of the greatest fighters ever to have laced 'em up. I know where you stand on Leonard, so I went get into that, but I totally agree with you assessment of Muhammad Ali's importance. He is my second favourite fighter of all time, and he was the epitome of what a champion should be. Took on everybody in one of the toughest Heavyweight divisions of all time, and it brings a smile to my face to watch him laughing and joking ahead of the biggest fight of his life, The Rumble in the Jungle. :good He shook up the world so often.
Damn it. You beat me to it. It was significantly slower than when used in the 60s but still did its job - to distract Frazier as he was bulling in in hope of a KO in the late rds - of course Ali usually threw 5 or 6 punch combo`s a split second after the shuffle, that helps a little. Ps. Red Rooster - Ali is my all time fav boxer (Morales 2nd) so at least there is 1 poster who appreciates the great man on ESB. Cheers.
Well, Ali can lay claim to it but Leonard can't because of the Norris fight. Nothing can ever change the outcome and it's all out in the open. We can't pretend it didnt happen no matter how we try to cover it up. Ali on the ohter hand was a true original and the most popular fighter since Jack Dempsey. If not for Muhammud, who would we have to compare Leonard with?
I will never forget Ali and what he meant to the sport. I think his importance has faded greatly over the years with all the Hagler fights and I'm here to remind people it's okay to be a fan of Muhammud's. Younger fans have little knowledge of what he was like and I'm sure this is true of every generation of fighters-they lose their importance with the younger fans.
Hi everyone! Ali is my nr 1 favourite all time, no one will ever be as great, in my opinion. Yes he did use the ali shuffle against Frazier in the second fight I will also recall that he used it in the Spinks fight. I agree about the young people today, if you mention Ali they just remember his late fights, I usually tell them that if you want to see the best Ali, check out his fight´s in the 60´s, usually when they have, they have a different opinion. There will never be another Ali. Little suprised that Leonard isn´t more popular around here, for me he is second best, then Roy Jones. Yes, I do like the flashy style All the best The Predator
think he used it in Quarry 2 fight aswell but the shuffle was nowhere near as fast re Big Cat fight. Which fights did Walcott use it in?
Ali got alot from Jersey Joe. I heard Angelo Dundee talking about it the other night on TV. That lateral movement, that elusiveness that Walcott probably had to employ because of his size, Ali with his considerable gifts was able to turn into pure art.
i covered his entire career, his like we'll never see again.he made the 1960's fun, then when he came back in the 70's he still was the best heavyweight,he was special for sure bigjake
