If you believe Tim Witherspoon when he says that he took a dive in their fight to get out of his don king contract, then I vote bonecrusher smith. Just lucked into a title reign against a guy who dominated the first fight.

    Charles Martin sprung to mind.

Though he was a good fighter, and seemed to be anything but lucky in terms of the shots he took to the head, Riddick Bowe was exceptionally lucky in terms of the reprieves he got against Golota, twice.

He features on an episode of the Netflix show "Losers" which is a really good watch. Bentt was a really good amateur, despite not really liking the sport of boxing. He had some top quality wins and was around the scene for a while before turning pro. In his debut he didn't know he was fighting a southpaw and got sparked early, then did ok as a prospect before the late notice fight against Morrison, where he landed the punch of his career. He was then sub sequentially knocked out against Herbie Hide in England and retired after 13 fights.

Roxky Jurarez comes to mind for me. He got like 6 or 7 world title shots, and many of them came after losing streaks. Every fight he had for a while was for a world title or eliminator, I always wondered how he managed it.

Hasim Rahman comes up too. His strategy after losing to Lewis and going 0-3-1 including Lewis and his next three fights was bs, but effective. He's fight a series of "nondescript" opponents, get a title shot, and lose, rinse and repeat 3-4 times.

Buster Douglas. This isn't even in question or close. He defeated one of the most dominant HW's in history on his best night fueled by his mother's death combined with that certain HW's lethargic attitude toward the fight, a binger with asian hookers and an overall malaise with boxing in general. It was a perfect storm that allowed him to win. That was luck.

    This.
I remember reading about how the only reason he got his shot vs Ali was because Ali wanted to fight another Olympic Gold medalist.
