Yep. I chose my words very carefully remember this is a commercial entertainment business. I don't have an issue with the knee same with Kel brook vs Spence. Eye was done, fight was done.
Yeah an eye injury will change your mind about almost anything. Also it's pretty unrealistic to imagine him coming out like the Looney Tunes Tazmanian Devil to try to end the fight one way or another. First it wouldn't have worked, it would have played right into Joyce's hands, and second he wasn't in that mental space from the beginning. No crowd maybe plays a role there. The corner should have been making adjustments at least 3 rounds before the stoppage in his movement, guard, and level of aggressiveness. There were a lot of close or Dubois favored rounds and now he's half blind, so just move, feint, take only really clear openings, and hope for a friendly decision.
Yep, eyesight quit jobs are no disgrace IMO. None of us can comment really if we’ve not been there. You can’t take liberties with your eyesight. Ogogo’s career ended because he boxed on with an eye injury.
Ive had horrible eye pain from a neck injury. The nervous system is connected into the back of your eyeball . You can feel an eye injury down to your feet
Yeah.. I knew it at that moment.. He had a round or two pondering whether to bite down or cream in and I knew in that moment he was done I'm normally not harsh on boxers who quit.. It takes legit hard ****s to fight through some of the injuries they get, lebedevs eye, Abrahams jaw, etc from recent memory.. But it really sat badly with me watching dubois take a knee......it reminded me of judah, someone with alot of talent who will wilt when it gets tough.. Obviously judah was more skilled than dubois but I mean from a mental aspect
I could do like ten times better than these guys if I was built like them with the right training and real bad opponents that were real sick and crippled up and were never trained or given medical attention.
Very prone to swelling. Unless Dubiois has a detached retina or a broken orbital bone, his quitting in the biggest fight of his life, which he could have won was rather disgraceful.
Genghis Khan said its better to flee a losing battle and come back when in a stronger position. If he allowed his eye to get further damaged his career might have been over.
He quit plain and simple. That being said we dont know the extent of damage to the eye. But, it is what it is.
It was a perfectly legitimate reason for Dubois to quit. His eye was swollen shut, it was the late rounds, he was gassed and taking massive prolonged punishment. Was he supposed to fight on till the end of the fight, taking more (and possibly permanent) damage to his eye? What sort of dumbass decision would that have been. I predicted this would look like a HW Cotto vs Margarito, and like that fight one guy gave it his all but came up short. Dubois didn't take the easy way out when it presented itself; he fought till his body gave up on him and overwhelmed his brain. Absolutely nothing shameful in that whatsoever, and I commend him for fighting as hard as he did for as long as he did. He was in with a monster.
The more fights I watch during COVID, the more I'm convinced it's easier to quit with no live audience in attendance. There are more people in gyms watching these guys spar than are attending some of these fights.
Dubios eye was swollen shut for two reasons. Actually 3. 1 ) He swells easy 2 ) He has little defense, limited head movement, no counter punch ect... Joyce was slow. Many heavies has a faster and harder jab an Joyce does. IMO, this problem can not be fixed, but can be mitered a little bit if Dubois works on it. He's too tightly wound. 3 ) DDD is a lot shorter with less reach than advertised, and Joyce height and reach bothered him.
