No, you're misreading things here. Joyce's jab and the way he moves his upper body makes it extremely difficult to catch him solidly, and his excellent timing and sense of ringcraft do not make it easy to beat him to the punch. This was the same sort of argument I heard before this fight, and we saw it wasn't the case.

You seem to think it's easy to just come forward on a guy like Joyce. There's a reason people don't do so, and it's because of his excellent jab. You need to take that away from him if you hope to land with any regularity, and so far the only fighter I've really seen do that to him in the pros has been Jennings.

I swear some posters wouldn't be happy unless a boxer went blind or forgot his own name.

Jesus you slated Joshua for months and months but at least he showed massive heart to get up 4 times while badly concussed gassed but you’re saying this wasn’t that bad a quit job after taking a knee over a swollen eye while you’re a head on the scorecards???

Dubois' corner let him down. They should have stopped the fight, not putting Dubois in that situation. Actually the ref and/or the ring doctor should have stopped the fight. Who knows if Dubois can recover, the quitter tag can be hard to shake. I felt Joyce would win by late stoppage, but Dubois did better than I thought he would. He could never hurt Joyce, 1.) because Joyce has a solid chin and 2.) Dubois doesn't hit as hard as some hoped he did. That said I don't know what it says about Dubois when you get out boxed by Joyce.
I'll say one thing about Joyce, he ain't pretty, but sure was effective, with the patience of Job working that jab.

I completely agree. Going for broke and losing by spectacular KO would’ve been easier to recover from.

Or, none of them thought the injury was bad enough for the fight to be stopped, because people get swollen eyes in boxing all the time.

    But Dubois quit anyway.

Joshua quit when he had no injuries at all.

Dubois is a quitter. Joshua is an even bigger quitter.

Is Tyson Fury the only British heavyweight who will fight through an injury?

    Meh.

    Fans are ridiculous about quitting.

The guy chose his eyesight over the 'moral victory' of not quitting in a professional fight.

    Oh the horror.

he quit. he isnt a fighter, not all boxers are. pain is no excuse and fighters have fought with worse injuries, but theyre fighters. warriors through and through. not all men are, and theres no shame in that. he gets to protect whatever he felt needed protecting at that time, and theres nothing wrong with that, but hes got to accept that he isnt part of the few, the fighters.

Why is everyone assuming Daniel Dubois was going to lose his eyesight if he continued? The doctor didn't even think it needed stopped. His corner didn't think the fight should be stopped. Boxers get swollen eyes all the time.

NOBODY thought his eye injury was bad enough to stop it.

Dubois took a knee and was counted out.

HE quit. He was losing and he quit. That's what happened.

You guys would be eviscerating other fighters for this.

Do a search for Carmen Basilio Swollen Eye. (He went 15 with Sugar Ray Robinson, not Joe freaking Joyce.)

Do a search for Ezzard Charles Swollen Eye. (He went 15 with Joe Louis ... and won.)

Do a search for any of your favorite boxers and swollen eye. 99.9 percent of them have had their eyes swollen shut before. And they aren't blind.

I don’t blame him. The eye is very important, more important than appeasing boxing fans.

He didn't just forfeit 'moral victory'.
    He forfeited victory.

I chose my eyesight and brain health over being a boxer at all.
But then again, I'm not expecting to be rated as a fighter either.

    It is what it is.
Fans like fighters with heart. Is that really ridiculous ?

I must have watched dozens of fights for British title alone where fighters were fighting with swollen eye until the end.
    It's part of the game.

I respect the heart it takes to be a professional fighter.
I don't see why people are pretending Dubois didn't fall a bit short of ordinary standard.
