I dont understand how Spinks WASN'T the champion ..... Is it because his second win over Holmes was controversial ?

Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson, 2 of the most lazy heavyweight champions of all time, known to go YEARS with out defended the crown lol.

 

Well, if we dont recognize Michael Spinks as the champion in 1987 because he chose to fight that big bum Cooney, then maybe he wasn't champion to begin with. I mean, he only beat Larry Holmes - a man who must have forfeited his right to be champion a few times with all those bums he fought.

That goes for almost every heavyweight champion in history too.

 

So, what is the exact reason for the picture of the fish where Dempsey's pic is supposed to be? And am I honestly the only one that noticed that?

 

A species of fish have been named Jack Dempsey after the fighter. At least I think that is the case; I don't see why it would be the other way around.

 

I suppose Jack Dempsey need a fish named after him, because there's already one called TUNNY.

I heard the Jack Dempsey fish was named so because if you put him in a tank with rival fish he goes into hibernation.

 

I've actually owned Jack Dempseys, and they can be very aggressive against other rival cichlids. At one point, I had a Dempsey, an oscar and a green terror in the same 55 gallon tank. For a while they got along, but I soon had to remove the green terror, because he was attacking the other two.

here we go again, you really hate Jack to no end.

 

Dempsey. You also left out his win over Sharkey, and long count against Tunney. He took on opponents who were closer to his skill level and prime. Johnson’s best wins came against much smaller opponents or washed up old timers. He gets all of his glory for being the first black HW champion. For all of the criticism Dempsey gets for drawing the color line, Johnson did the same thing while champion. He made one exception against a much lesser fighter.

 

I was asked a question and answered it honestly. If I said Johnson a Dempsey fan boy would say the same.

I gave reasons.

 

Holmes and Tubbs were dug up. They had not beaten any contenders for years. Same really with Bruno and Spinks. Sure there was nobody else and Tyson was an active champion... but the contenders were mostly inactive, rusty and semi retired.

Berbick. Smith, Tucker and Douglas were legit though.
