No operations. No blindness. No nerve damage. No surgery. No retina problems.

Dubois is just going to put ice on his swollen eye and fight again when it heals.

So all you guys who got your panties in a bunch can calm down. He quit because his eye was swollen shut. The same injury thousands of fighters have faced and continued fighting with.

Dubois official statement: "Thank you to everyone who have sent messages of support over the weekend. All respect to Joe Joyce, he boxed well and won fair and square. I thought I was winning the fight. I tried to fight through the injury but I couldn't in the end. I'm out of the hospital and now will wait for the fracture to heal. I'll be back to prove my doubters wrong and my fans right."

Maybe next time his eye gets puffy, he will "summon the courage."

    God save the Queen. (LOL)

Says he fractured it anyhow so not just a swollen eye like you claimed. Stop besmirching him for quitting when his vision was at stake. Too many fighters have had to retire early because of eye injuries they sustained in tough fights.

That's how eye's get swollen in a fight. They get damaged. The tissue. The bone. Do I need to keep reposting all the guys who fought through cracked or broken orbital bones to win?

    He's fine.

Step off the ledge. No operation. No surgery. No nerve damage. No blindness. No detached retinas.

    It's swollen. It'll heal.

If he gets punched in the face a 100 times again, one of his eyes will probably swell up again.

    It's a contact sport, for God's sake.

He quit, pure and simple. THe fight was close - he could have switched to southpaw for 2 rounds. He quit because he's a little dense.

Just a swollen eye, (statement says fracture)..

Maybe push Wilder's ball sack as side so you can read.

Yes, a swollen eye. When you get punched in the eye and it swells up, there is always damage - either to the tissue, the bone around the eye, or the eye itself.

In this case, there's nothing wrong with Dubois that waiting for the swelling to go down won't heal.

    His eye is fine.

Apparently, Wilder should've quit every time he suffered a swollen eye or an injury in a fight.

He actually needed surgery to repair his injuries.

    Hell, he'd be beloved.

He could insult the blind moms of his opponents all day long and nobody would care.

And nobody would've questioned his high ranking before his title shots or anything.

If he was only a quitter ... damn. Oh well.

He should of blamed his costume. Or the Water. Or something in Joyces gloves. Or fingernails.

"It was just swollen shut" is just a meme statement at this point

It's not just the choice to stop, it's his total lack of technical ability in combating the problem. Someone on Twitter suggested he "turn southpaw" to "solve the problem". Daniel would clearly rather take a knee than try something this absurd. He was entirely incapable of even making a small adjustment in order to rescue himself from that stoppage defeat, whatever he chose to do.

Inexperienced but he was basically a steer waiting to be hit with the boltgun.

Yeah the fact his hospital stay was so short all but confirms the injury wasn’t nearly as severe as it’s been suggested by those who are trying to spin the damage control narrative.

Dubois’ body language showed he wanted out of that ring even before the eye swelled up. His corner tried to to pick him up mentally but it didn’t work.

To be a top level pro you need pain tolerance and mental toughness far beyond that of a regular civilian. Imagine if he got cut early like Fury was against Wallin, he’d be begging his corner to pull him out after a couple rounds.

    Dubois just doesn’t have it.

I can't blame the guy for quitting but it's only smart to consider whether this is really the career for him.

Injuries like that repeat themselves easier than they happen the first time, and he'd have to take punches that are harder, faster, and more deceptive than Joe Joyce's jab.

He's still young enough not to be committed to anything and hopefully someone is at least presenting the options to him.

People were saying rosaries over Dubois when the cure for his injury is "take some ibuprofen and put some ice on it."

If Dubois had undergone shoulder surgery, torn bicep surgery, multiple surgeries on his hands ... and not only didn't quit but WON most of those fights WITH those injuries ... he'd be up for sainthood right now.

The freaking double standards around here are incredible.

His vision wasn't at stake any more than Joyce's vision was at stake. His vision is fine. His eye swelled shut.

He quit. He went to the hospital. They said put some ice on it. He went home. And posted a tweet saying he'll fight again.

    End of story. Seriously.

Is this the first time you've seen someone's eye swell up? It happens ALL the time.

He went in for a scan. An operation is required and will be conducted on a later date.
