Anthony Joshua does not necessarily have to vacate the WBO belt. As we all know, AJ will terminate Pulev easily at round 3 at the latest, without getting a single blow. Therefore he won't get any damage in this fight. The recovery period will be minimal. We all saw that Usyk was terrible against a shot Chisora in his first serious HW fight. Just look at round 2, he was blown to bits by Chisora and he asked referee's help, he claimed that Chisora was doing low blows which was not the issue at all. He couldn't bear the pressure that Chisora applied. Anthony Joshua would make quick work of Usyk like he did to Klitschko in round 5. All he has to do is to drop heavy bombs on Usyk which he will not be able to endure. Considering Usyk is not strong as Klitschko, he will be terminated easily when AJ puts the pressure on him, like Chisora did in rounds 1 & 2. Usyk is not cut for heavyweight, he can no way compete with the strong giants like AJ, Fury etc. Once AJ easily puts Usyk out of the equation around March 2021, he can move on to the real competion: Tyson Fury fight, which will determine the undisputed king of heavyweight.
Only if Fury is forced to embarrass Wilder again. Otherwise, AJ needs to go right to Fury after Pulev. The time is now. Usyk is good, and I like they guy, but he can fight the unified champ late 2021 or 2022.
A.J fought old out over the hill Klitschko and Povetkin and this is used as " marquee wins ". Only one marquee fight A.J had vs Ruiz. Now again like with Povetkin and Klitschko fight with 39 y.o Pulev. Funny he is not much far from Wilder regards his marquee fights and legacy. Nothing much better. Next uncle?
I dont see why not. Fury vs Joshua is THE fight. But if you can't cram a stadium with 80000 plus screaming dossers I feel it would be doing this event a disservice. So why not get Usyk out of the way. There will be a bit of interest but Oleksander doesn't have the tools at heavy to be that risky a fight.
Fan boy squealing aside, there's some substance in this. If Joshua wastes Usyk in February, he can still fight Fury in a lockdown's over party at Wembley in July. As Fury is showing no inclination of wanting to fight anytime soon, it mends a bit more of the hole in AJ's bubble. I don't reckon Fast Eddie will take the risk as I don't reckon his confidence in Joshua is where it was pre Ruiz but I can see the sense in the argument.
