I love watching fights from the 60’s to the early 80’s. The Ali fights, Duran, Victor Galindez, all the great light heavyweight fights, anything Yaqui Lopez, Jose Napoles, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes. I love that era. However, I was a child in the 70’s and didn’t really get to see any of that stuff live. I actually started with Tyson in 1985. I didn’t see prime Ali but from a popularity standpoint, Tyson was close. He was maybe the most popular athlete in the world for a time. Watching him made me start watching boxing regularly. Top Rank Boxing, Tuesday Night Fights, ABC, NBC, CBS, HBO. Boxing every single week! I read all the magazines I could find. Ring, KO, World Boxing. I knew every major boxer from 1985 - 1995 I think. That was the last time Boxing didn’t feel like a niche sport. That’s definitely my sweet spot.
Mid to late 80s Still had Pryor, Curry, Hearns, Duran, Holmes, Pedroza etc plus the young stars coming up Nunn, Tyson, Whitaker, Galaxy, Fenech, Taylor etc and the reigning kings Spinks, Hagler, Chavez, McCallum, Holyfield, Nelson etc
Old time - The 1940s and 50s. Robinson,Louis,Gavilan etc. During my own time as a boxing fan - The 1970s for heavyweights. My all time fave boxer,Muhammad Ali and the rest of that quality laden crew. And the 1980s for the welters and middles - Leonard,Hagler,Hearns et al.
fab 4 1980s.. even the guys who were not Leonard, Duran, Hearns and Hagler were tops. Benitez, Curry,Qawi. Spinks. Holmes. Every division. Nelson,McGuigan, Camacho,Chavez. Laporte, etc etc
