I think they have to prepare to go at an overall higher pace. In all the fights that he's lost he's getting outworked. Danny has to train with volume on the mind.
Like I said I love Angel a great character and fine trainer. We are talking about incremental improvements that having a truly great trainer can have at the highest level.
His father just has to realize that his son is not the elite fighter that they thought he was! His boxing abilities and power were always overrated! His record at 140 was okay but at 147 he wasn’t a real contender! He knocked out a glass chinned Amir Khan and made fans believe he had power. He never knocked out a real top 10 in their prime fighter. He was given a gift decision against Herrera! He should consider himself lucky and retire before he gets in the ring with Crawford or Pac-Man and really gets hurt!
I completely agree. Rather than switch trainers, I'd rather see Danny retire. He's earned everything in his career, despite a few close calls along the way.
I think you're being a little unfair in your assessment of Danny. I thought he lost the Herrera fight and he was lucky to get the decision against Peterson. I also thought he can make a case for beating Thurman and Porter. Either way, his record stands at 36-3. He overcame the odds to beat Holt, Morales, Khan, and Matthyse. He held his own at the highest level...nothing to be ashamed of.
Morales was way past his prime when they fought! Khan was totally out classing Garcia until he landed that lucky punch on Khans glass chin! He fought some tomato cans at 140 and knocked out Brandon Rios a human punching bag! He never knocked out any of the top level competition at 140 and was outclassed by the contenders at 147! He’s got a great chin and some heart but that’s it!
Lomo had hit size and weight block when he moved to 135 lbs d. I think Lomo had gameplan to be passive and encourage young Lopez to be less careful. He was wrong. He waited too long too. Lopez gameplan most likely was to outbox Loma because was assumed that if Lopez will win, then via stoppage. Lopez fooled Loma and continued to box all fight, did all the best to remain disciplined and this gave him win. Props to Lopez. Fight was boring to watch. Very boring fight. Interest about fight? Of course really high, both of them are capable to stop a guy not only with head blow but also with 1 single liver punch if properly landed. any round, any time. Really interesting matchup.
Why? OK, not a champ and for fans in forums usually criteria is like zero or a champ. Nothing else. Yeah, with such dad he better had choosed another career not professional boxing. Guy normally box, collected not bad paychecks. Bum didn't lasted vs Spence Jr 1 single round and nor vs Crawford or even nor vs Machine. Ok, guy not a champ, what kind of tragedy.
When we really dissect Danny body of work. I think you are correct. Khan was never elite just a hype job with a glass chin. Morales was a career 130'er and that stage of his career was shot and gave him one tough fight lol. All the other pts you mentioned are also on point.
I agree with you, Morales was past his prime. There are no lucky punches in boxing. Luck is when preparation and opportunity intersect. Khan wasn’t prepared, Danny was. The opportunity presented itself and Danny yank the rug out from Khan with a no-look hook. Oddsmakers listed Khan at -600 to add Garcia’s WBC title to his WBA title. Danny defied the script and unified the titles himself. Then oddsmakers listed Matthysse at -255 to take both titles from Danny. Matthysse was the boogeyman of 140 when he fought Danny. I even thought he would win. Again, Danny proved oddsmakers (and me) wrong. I agree with you, Rios’s best days were behind him when he fought Garcia. Still, Danny did what he was supposed to do. He added Rios to his career highlight reel. Thurman, Porter, and Spence did not have an easy night with Garcia. Objectively speaking (you should try it sometime), I think Herrera beat Danny most convincingly even though the judges robbed him.
Im as objective as they come and just as realistic! Herrera dominated Garcia! Spence made him look slow and old! Thurman and Porter both undoubtedly beat him! Again he was lucky against Khan (who I never liked)! Garcia’s luck finally ran out so he should retire!
