Smith is too big for Canelo I reckon. I expect Canelo to lose by stoppage in the late rounds. Canelo is a great bodypuncher but for it to tell he would have had to withstand heavy artillery from Callum. I think he wilts under the barrage

Very similar height to John Ryder but a much more skilful, elusive boxer with big punch power.

I dunno man original I thought Canelo easy the more I think about it im not sure. Smith is 6 ft 3 and although he has a granite chin if Smith catches him clean with one of his straight rights I think he can at least hurt Canelo and one thing Smith has got is great finishing instinct its an interesting fight and I believe many people underrated Smith massively. Had a moody against Ryder but Ryder is a southpaw who is relentless with a great chin he makes fights hard I thought Ryder won on the night then rewatched it yesterday and concluded Smith won but only just.

John Ryder is nowhere near as skilled as Canelo however style's make fights. Ryder is a relentless southpaw I dont think Canelo will be as active as Ryder which makes it easier for Smith to fight his fight

I think Canelo will get to Smith eventually, but I just can't rule out Smith and the reason for that is the Khan fight. Khan kept Canelo at bay and out of range for a large portion of the fight. Smith is much taller than Khan and fresher, I think this going to be an excellent fight will be closer than a lot of people think.

I think Canelo will stop him pretty quickly.

Definately Canrlo is top man but anybody who think Smith dont have a chance is a bit naive as far as I'm concerned Canelo has been beaten 3 times he is not unbeatable. Smith has all the physical Advantages plus I dont think Canelo has ever fought someone who is very good and bigger. Kovalev was on his last legs and Smith battered fielding in one round.

I have said it all along Callum Smith beats Canelo, unless shafted on the cards. My point is regardless of official outcome he will prove to be the better fighter at 168ib. Too much is being made of John Ryder, be it Callum's low quality performance for his standards (though he won fair and square) or Ryder/Canelo being similar height. Canelo and Ryder have completely different styles. Ryder is a come forward pressure fighter, Canelo is not. Ryder is a genuine 5'9, Canelo nearer 5'7 in reality. Callum will be 100 x more motivated for Canelo than he was for Ryder, as he went into that fight with no fear. Interestingly I just seen in a boxing social interview Callum said he came into ring against Ryder a lot lighter than normal, it was his fault, as he never rehydrated correctly to a weight he fights best at.

I agree totally mate. People need to watch the Smith Ryder fight without the emotion on the night. On a 2nd watch I went from Ryder to Smith easily just on quality of work. Right on the money the comparison Ryder is a Scrappy Brawler (a good one) Canelo is a pure boxer counter puncher. Smith would rather fight Canelo then Ryder people underestimate how hard it is to win against scrappy fighters. Canelo needs to be able to simultaneously pull out of smiths range then back in to land counters its easier to do that against a guy 3 inches bigger then you like kovalev but Smith is 6 maybe 7 inches bigger with disproportionately long arms. Canelo is the bollocks no doubt but we have weight categories for a reason, has canelo ever fought somebody with Smiths power from distance. You got GGG who beat Canelo at least once but he has a different kind of power to Smith not snappy just relentless accumulating shots. I got feeling callum might stop him. Alternatively Canelo really is that good and I'm just hoping the ginger cheating **** gets beat.

Having been a big Callum Smith fan since he turned pro, and having obviously seen a lot of Canelo, there are a couple of key areas/shots I think he will look to take advantage with, and has the skills to do so. Canelo has wonderful upper body movement and after a while when struggling with Smith's jab, he is likely to try and bob and weave under the jab and try and land the overhand right. When he does and his chin rises, expect Smith to take a wee half step back and counter with a left hook. I think that or a cork screw righthand will land high on Canelo's head and scrabble him. I think Smith will get one good chance to stop Canelo, as he will hurt him, will he take it is the question. If not I expect him to 'win' on points but will he get the decision, unfortunately, unlikely with judges. I think, and certainly hope that Callum does not throw single head shots unless in counter punch scenarios as he will miss and Canelo will counter him. Callum when on the front foot should aim for the body and arms, as Canelo's upper body movement is sublime. I think he could really get a foothold by using his long accurate levers to land on Canelo's ribs, behind his elbows. Canelo is great at covering up, but Callum has accuracy and reach to land at the back of the ribs, beyond the guard.

Spot on mate. I have only watched the Ryder fight the once and have no doubt the right man won. Callum build a big lead and Ryder finished the stronger. As you say, and I think, Ryder and Canelo fight totally differently. With Canelo's head movement I would have been studying Mike Tyson in his prime v tall opponents, and change style and surprise Smith by being aggressive, bobbing and weaving like Tyson. If Canelo done that Smith would be in trouble, but he is elite p4p so wont change style imo. Problem his style wont work the same in this fight.

I was banging the drum like everyone else that Ryder won that fight. It really is worth watching again, Ryder just about got the draw but no complaints with a 7-5 to Smith.

There’s some good discussion going on in this thread and I really hope Moog and Terminator are right. I think Canelo pressures just as much as Ryder but is more educated with it. He makes his opponents work much harder than he is with his feints and movement and he’s much more accurate and economical with his shots. I don’t think Callum is going to be able to control this fight with the range and jab. I see Canelo right in front of him and Callum having to tuck into his shell. Smith’s best chance is not the jab or straight shots, it will be the short hooks he throws as he comes back of the ropes.

Canelo is already small in this fight but he fights smaller. It’s going to be extremely difficult for Smith to keep him away. Good luck to him, I will be cheering him on. Can’t wait.

Smiths Terrific at those long hooks round the guard into the body he needs to utilise that and slow canelo down so he can dictate the pace if he does that smiths chomping power coming down on canelo is gonna hurt him I dont care what anybody says.
