I agree mate. I mentioned above I don’t fancy him at 12 stone 7. He is reliant on his size but he is still a good fighter. It is Smith’s physical advantages that make him what he is but it will be taking its toll as you said he definitely looked drained against Ryder. A lot has to go right for him tonight for sure but I certainly think he’ll give Canelo problems to deal with and as you say, he could clip him and i’d be confident of him finishing Canelo off if he does. Canelo has to come a long way to get inside and get out or continually time Smith to perfection. Even with his superb lateral movement and timing is a fairly big ask.
Today I rewatched both the Ryder and Groves fight. The glaring difference was Smiths feet. Against groves yes he goes back in straight lines but quick and sharp, against Ryder that was non existent. Whether that’s down to the weight cut which I hope wasn’t, but suspect was the case, could possibly be why Canelo pulled the trigger. Think Smith is to great of a puncher and has to good a timing for Canelo to just ‘smash the body’ as people are claiming. Notoriously flat footed to get into range Canelo is going to get whacked. As I said previously Smith has been absolutely slept on. If Canelo wins emphatically he’s on the road to ATG for me and will be a great victory. PS if smith looks drained to a corpse everything I said above is null
Setting my alarm for this, I’m gonna be shattered all week. I’ve got a funny feeling that people are going to be saying things like “why didn’t he use his height and reach and just pop him with the jab constantly” tomorrow. The reality is that Canelo will make him miss and counter him to the point where Callum will be reluctant to throw the jab and will try and counter him with hooks instead on the inside. The height and reach is not going to help Smith tonight. Really hope I’m wrong.
If he throws mainly single jabs i think you will be right. I think or I hope he doubles up on the jab to make it much harder for Canelo.
Smith is getting pounded. Canelo has been training for this for a while, and looks like a tank. Smith, was given the contract last minute, and looks soft in the middle. Canelo, doesn’t fight anyone, without all advantages being taken care of ahead of time. Late round ko
Wish I could agree. Smith, just wasn’t given enough time to train properly. Looking how soft Smiths looking, I, imagine he spent camp losing weight. It will be competitive at the start, leading to the inevitable late round beat down.
Hope he goes for it regardless...according to joe gallagher callum makes the weight without too much trouble. Said he,d have definetely moved him up if it was a problem. Which is crazy really considering his size etc. I think the problem with anyone facing canelo atm is the boy hits hard and he knows it. Regardless of what you try...hes pretty comfortable knowing as soon as he does start landing he,ll get to you at some point. Similar to how golovkin is or was. Their relaxed knowing they hit so hard. Not one punch ko power. But power that does start to break you down. The opponent usually finds out early...then a bit of panic sets in. With guys like that i still say you need to try take them out first. Be interesting to see if callum with being a good bit bigger can absorb it better tho. Or has something that can discourage canelo coming forward.
Don't even think the entire Smith Brothers singing Panic will have any impact on the outcome - Smith is getting starched. His CV is shocking and Eh Day throwing another non elite world champion to a hungry lion.
Don’t think anyone would turn down a Canelo fight, think of the money. That along with the WBSS, not a bad career for a fighter with zero personality. Canelo is gonna ruin him I think.
