I got about 3.5 hours before but I am trying to sleep again now so I can be fresher. Got all sorts to do tomorrow until 9pm. I’m not complaining too much I’m used to going to bed pissed at midnight after the boxing and getting up for work at 4:30 or so. I haven’t had a drink or anything tonight so not even bad really. I just wish I could sleep more haha.
Your statement lost any weight when you say "PED cheat or not". Ped cheats are a disgrace to the sport.
Well, that was a little onesided. Looking back even this quickly, the thing that stood out to me immediately was the way Canelo started. He started so much quicker than I thought he would, I expected him to start pressing Smith and getting closer after a few rounds but he did it from the opening bell. He took away Smiths jab quickly, didn't give Smith time to settle in with it and find his range, once he took the jab away it was light work for Canelo. Canelo then could walk right up, push Smith back towards the ropes and land shots to head and body knowing all that was likely to come back was a left hook, Smith was too close and too square to throw a long straight right and he also didn't want to open himself up committing to uppercuts and missing. It was very impressive, Canelo bossed him, that simple, Smith didn't know what to do, he had clearly ran out of ideas after a few rounds. One thing that is underrated about Canelo is his footwork and positioning, his ring IQ, he isn't the quickest on his feet (he isn't slow either) but he knows when to take these half steps across or walk up the side of his opponent at an angle and move them were he wants, he makes them work hard, he never gives them a breather, it's very interesting to watch. He didn't give Smith a seconds rest, constantly making him move, throw shots and change levels all at Canelos pace so it must have been so mentally draining but Smith held up pretty well all things considered. A few words on Smith, impressed with his conditioning, his chin and his courage, you could see on his face rather early he knew this was going to be too much but he took his loss like a champ, he took his beating and saw it through and you have to respect that. Smith will be disappointed at how he performed but he was just beaten by the better man, Canelo looks a little special right now, he is the P4P number 1 in my opinion and losing to him over 12 and never getting put on your backside isn't anything to be ashamed of. Before I go, As for BJS, I advise him to lose some weight and go back to 160 and fight Andrade, keep well away from Canelo, it ends in brutal fashion if he pursues that fight. Smith hada huge size advantage, excellent conditioning, a granite chin and still took serious abuse, Joe Gallagher was going to stop it after 9/10 and when is the last time you saw BJS look slick, sharp and well conditioned? People can't keep pointing at the Lemieux fight and just believing that BJS suddenly turns up against Canelo. BJS will be brutalised and it's best for all concerned if he gives that fight a miss, I won't call it a "duck" I'll call it "sensible".
I don’t think you can say he was “exposed”. He was just completely outclassed by the best in the world pound for pound. Canelo does that to most people.
Nope, not having any of that nonsense. Smith knew the fight was extremely likely to happen, they were in the gym aiming for a December fight with Canelo, Joe Gallagher said it, Callum himself said it, Eddie said it... they were training like they were fighting before the fight was signed. So to point at as an excuse or reason to unimpressed Canelo is weak. Well, maybe except BJS, who said he didn't sign for the fight because 8 weeks wasn't long enough, even though were in a lockdown and he has nothing else to do but train, that man couldn't get himself in shape in 8 weeks and he is champion FFS, embarrassing to be honest. But tonight I think we saw why BJS had no intention of getting himself in shape. Canelo did a number on Smith, it wasn't close, it wasn't competitive, Smith did very well to get through it but don't start with 4 weeks rubbish, no way was that a factor when they all knew and said they were training for the fight before it was even official.
I don’t know how anyone expected Smith to win that fight. Canelo isn’t as great as the hype machine will have you believe, but he’s still a very good fighter a level or two above the overrated Smith. FFS Smith was lucky to beat John Ryder he was never going to have a chance of beating Canelo.
I know Ryder isn’t a slouch, he’s a good fighter and totally committed. He’s no Canelo though and Smith was lucky to beat him.
So you think it’s acceptable to give a challenger 4 weeks notice?? disregarding your hypothetical bulls*it. I don’t recall Wladimir, Floyd, Manny, Morales, Marquez, Barrera, Cotto, Ward, GGG, Kovalev ever doing that? Haha You are telling me boxing has got to the point now where giving a potential challenger to the ‘P4P King’ 4 weeks notice can some how be excused by the fact they should of been in the gym hahahaha. What a first class donut
Your advice to BJS is good but it's important he keeps conning the boxing public out of money to watch his "slickness" aka running away against lesser opponents.
