Canelo is in his prime

It's amazing how much this guy has improved. Amazing. Canelo's weakest spot was his footwork, and yesterday's fight was a masterclass about how to cut a ring.

Honestly, this guy is impressive. Like him or not, but his boxing skills are mindblowing.

 

Yeah, it's quite a thing to see an already world class fighter with some 40 fights improve as much as he has. Even against Khan, I felt he showed him a bit too much respect and wasn't aggressive enough in closing down spaces, but last night he really put on a masterclass in pressure against a much more dangerous fighter.

 

I want to see Canelo vs Bivol. Make it at a "Caneloweight". Say 170lbs. That shouldn't ruin Bivol. He just ain't that big is he? Boxrec has him at 6' even, but I think that is stretching it. I like the style matchup and think it would be a great great fight. David Benavidez is taller than Bivol but fights at168 and has speed and power. That would be sweet as well.

 

Record books also show that Holyfield had a draw with LL, but how do people remember this fight?

 

Bivol is too much for Canelo. The p4p number 1 has to be carefully guided or BOOM!

 

He has a lot of good wins, so I respect his resume - I read his resume the way the fights actually happened. Still, he only lost 3 fights in his career. There's no shame in losing to GGG twice and once to Floyd, all by decision. He has a steel jaw.

 

Still a draw and Lennox won the rematch fact despite it being closer than the first fight and Holyfield thinking he won. Facts matter. Donald Trump thinks he won the elections in November 2020 though he lost.

 

Nobody thinks it was a draw. That's my point. LL won.

 

It's a big ask to beat him, as Alvarez is an elite fighter who is improving fight by fight.

High ring IQ, can adjust in-fight, good power, good speed, good body work. His defense is on point now too, if you do manage to catch him, he is good at rolling the punches and has a good chin.

He's a complete fighter and a tough nut to crack.

I don't think he is improving. Lately he just fought weaker opposition like shot Kovalev, Fielding and Smith.
When he fights good fighters like GGG he needs help from the judges.

 

He definitely lost to Floyd, and by a wide margin...9 - 3 or 10 - 2.

He lost to GGG, once for sure (somewhere around 8 -4) and probably twice.

But he has improved and, as the threadstarter mentioned, he's now prime.

Floyd would not have a prayer at this point, and judging by GGG's decline as seen in his last two outings, it's doubtful if he's up to dealing with Canelo at this point.

Canelo is clearly the best p4p right now.

If he could become linear at LHW, he could be discussed in the same conversations as Floyd and Pac in terms of all-time status.

 

Smith was the RING champ at 168, undefeated, and over 6 feet tall...how is he weak opposition?

So you are saying that the judges cheated in both Alvarez/Golovkin fights, do you have proof?

On another note, give me the strong opposition from 154-168 that Alvarez should fight to prove his metal to you?

 

I think he is at his peak.
