First person that stands out to me is David Haye v Vladimir Klitschko and of recent times Mikey Garcia v Errol Spence and Callum Smith v Canelo. I know it's easy as an armchair fan to say this but I can't get my head around fighters who know they are losing and don't take the necessary risks.
Haye is a better example as he was gunshy and happy to lose on points, but had genuine fight ending power. Smith doesn’t have anything in his arsenal that could have hurt Canelo
I think if you watch the fight again you will see Smith was just purely outclassed! However in the latter rounds he knew he was behind and he did try and let his hands go. The combinations were getting out together some decent shots landing and it just didn’t faze Canelo. Must have been soul destroying.
Yeah I think around 8 or 9 Smith landed a really good right and it just bounced off Canelos chin. There is some genuine iron in that jaw.
It was awful. They know what Canelo brings, Liam has been in the ring with him. They had no game plan and zero desire. It was embarrassing. They spent the first 5 round doing NOTHING and the next 7 doing very little different. Gallagher needs to go he is clueless at this level, he spent the first half telling Callum he was winning and the second half saying he would pull him out, didn't know what was going on or how to change it.
Ricky Burns is the master of skipping away for 12 rounds taking a tame points defeat after he broke his jaw in the Beltran fight
Hughie vs Povetkin and Pulev. Amid tough circumstances in the latter granted but I think Hughie has it in him to be a World Champion if he just lets his hands go more and that's what was so frustrating about the two fights.
I think the likes of Joe Gallagher no disrespect he is a good coach but there are levels to every sport and it does show big time in these elite level fights I.e Smith v Canelo not only the gulf in class of the fighters but also the gulf in class of the trainers.
Unlike the majority I don’t mind Gallagher and he’s brilliant at getting the best out of fighters at a certain level, Crolla being the best example. At the very top level though he’s lacking big time.
