Say if froch could come back at 90% of what he was (and if he wanted to risk his new posh nose), what do you guys think would be the outcome? Would he still be too big too strong? Canelo has really gone up in my estimation. I'd even say he's 60/40 against prime froch imo. He's on his way to being a fab 4 level fighter.
Canelo batters Froch I don't see any debate here at all. Plenty more knowledgeable people on here than myself though.
He'd get a pasting if he came back now.... too long out of the game In his prime however..... TOO BIG TOO STRONG
Imagine Taylor vs Froch except Froch doesn't land as much and gets hit more and more to the body. The only 168er from these shores in the last 30 year that would give Alvarez a real go is Joe Calzaghe, the version that absolutely destroyed Lacy and inflicted a first defeat on Kessler, the prime Kessler. Not Eubank, not Benn, not Collins, not Reid, not Woodhall, not Groves, not Froch and, as we've seen, not Smith. Calzaghe had it in him to do to Alvarez at 168 what Welters were doing to him only probably do enough to take it on the cards. Not Hopkins LHW Calzaghe, I'm talking prime World Champion SMW Calzaghe that was twice an underdog going into masive World Title Fights, with injuries that would end most careers, winning on both occasions with majestic performances. I'm not saying that Froch wasn't a great fighter, I'm saying that he wouldn't be able to beat a greater fighter, as much as it pains me to say that about someone who has clearly been a drug cheat and a benefitter of dodgy cards on a number of occasions.
Froch probably gets beaten up at points. On way to to a wide loss. His Chin and d fitness would stop him getting KOd but his total lack of hand and a foot speed would mean he would struggle to build an offense V Canelo. Alvarez would probably sit and counter with power hooks and run away with it on the cards. Zaggers is a different story. Bigger than both Froch and Alvarez naturally. Far better stamina and combinations from odd angles with volume and speed. Alvarez makes u miss and walks u down but that's harder to do when the other guy is throwing fast unorthdaox combinations rather than a straight 1 2. It ight even look ugly like Hopkins but Calzaghe would keep throwing and Canelos one weakness is his stamina.. Not really counting the Smith fight as Smith was content to not getting knocked out rather than winning.
Joe is the one fighter who you could match against any fighter, of any era and make a good argument for a victory. Joe was exceptional. Lightning fast, fit as they come and tough.
Joe Calzaghe is massively underrated, yes, underrated. People still say Lacy wasn’t that good or Kessler wasn’t experienced enough when they fought or that he fought a lot of tin cans in his WBO reign but you can do that with anyone, even Ali, Leonard or Sugar Ray Robinson. The guy always found a way to win, more often than not, in style.
Canelo would absolutely batter Froch, look at what Groves was doing to him in the first fight with his boxing skills. I doubt he’d be stopped because he was a warrior and had a great chin, but it would be very one sided. Smith - Froch would’ve been interesting I think and the type of fight I’d have liked to see.
Prime Froch walks down and stops any version of the feather fisted ginger midget. Let’s not forget this kid was backed up by a super featherweight in Mayweather.
